Deaf/deaf/hoh

Oh, I absolutely agree. It's a given that each parents have their own perception, bias, and understanding, and people need to keep in mind they see and think things differently. Nothing wrong in providing some useful (and highly constructive) responses to their questions.

Practice what you preach.

I resent when someone comes into a thread and tells posters how to be polite or that they like some posts, when they haven't participated in the first 10-20 pages (if AT ALL) of the thread and not understand the friction going on, or the friction going on surrounding those posters in previous threads. It's hypocritical and narrow-minded.

Just saying.

Yes. The ulterior motive is blatant.

Yet, I don't see it. I didn't see any obvious put downs and such. Did the thread get locked? Apparently not.

In post #92 dreamchaser said this:

Doesn't look like a put down to me.

*shrugs*

You choose not to see it. *shrugs*

Well you are intitled to your opinion as well as I am to mine.

Just sayin' :)

Yes, but when you tell me "this is a much nicer way to say it" in a thread that you had not participated in whatsoever up to that point, I feel like you are being my "mommy" telling me "be nice !!"

Fine, you have your opinion. I have mine. And I'll express mine in a manner that seems fitting with the thread or attitudes surrounding it, if I so choose.

If one feels like I slammed them then I apologize.. but I also will not stand by and watch a group of people slam another poster either. I can read, and I am not here everyday 24/7 to post, so their will be times where I read a thread and click like on them then post what I have to say. Did not realize their was a time limit to post or click like on a thread. :)

Well, then. You should understand perfectly why there are those that feel just as strongly about not allowing a poster to slam the deaf community.;)

I am not being your "mommy" I am expressing my opinion of that was a nicer way of saying it. It was not a put down or anything. You caught youself and posted it in a nicer way, I just liked it and thought that was cool. Sorry if you felt offended. It was not my intention.

I did not "catch myself". I simply added another post that mentioned scholarships or finding availability.

Just like I told Shel in another thread. If I see someone intentionally slamming the deaf community, I will be the first to back you guys up. :) Like I said I see bitterness on both sides. I never said it was just one side.

Exactly. I don't need anyone to do my thinking, or my speaking, for me.

No one is is thinking or speaking for anyone here. Everyone speaks for themselves.

Commenting that is a nicer way of saying it, is not speaking or thinking for someone else.

I have said what I said about this and their is no need for me to continue to defend myself over a comment that I already apologized for if I offended someone. :)

I see it as rather paternalistic, and I have a problem with that.

I'm not offended; just stating my opinion.:P

Perhaps the ones that sees that comment as paternalistic are the ones that are acting childish. :hmm:

Just sayin'

There is an issue of speaking for others. The boundaries are not clear here. I don't represent you in any way. When I do something that you don't approve of, it's not a reflection on you. Whatever your opinion is, it's not a reflection on me. We are separate people with different ideas. We both can both exist and simply not agree about an issue.

You're uncomfortable with direct communication. Stating this thread about another threat is really passive aggressive. I would prefer that you address specific comments on the other thread. Then we could address the exact issue instead of having a vague discussion about "being nice."

I do not want to throw those specifics thread off topic. So that is what this thread is for. Discussing how we can work together.

Like Jillio, I also miss the days where we can discuss topics and have awesome debates without insults.

I understand but it's hard to discuss vague concepts like "tone." Come to think of it, tone isn't even conveyed on the internet, which may be part of the problem.

Maybe we could assume that others are intending a good tone but at some point blatant sarcasm makes that assumption impossible. *sigh*
