Deaf boy, 7, hears for the first time in emotional reunion with family in Guatemala

Jenri Rivera, who was born deaf, had his cochlear implant turned on for the first time this week for an emotional reunion with his family over Skype.

He was flown to Fort Wayne, Indiana, after meeting Erin Van Oordt who was volunteering in Guatemala over three years ago. She then made it her mission to help solve Jenri’s hearing problems.
