As I'm chilling at the bowling centre waiting for my league to start. I came up with this an wonder if this has impacted to you in an area?

Just an example - I come to bowling every Tuesday night, at the beginning - staff emplyees didnt know that there were deaf players attending but after a while they learn who deaf people were and they give us respect and graduitite like they are aware of my deafness, thats how I notice as I frequent go there.

Does this occur to you?

Not very much, But our deaf community service gives a deaf awarness day every year during the spring. I want to go but I rarely do because of band and school. But my school does a language week, and ASL is always the last one, and so it is kind of like Deaf Awarness day but not really.

I am seeing it more and more around town, but since this is a HUGE city, there's a lot more to go.

Yes, I do notice that in place I frequent on a regular basis, staff do go to extra trouble for me to be helpful. :)

took you all a while to find my thread here...

Yeah, I noticed too, and it is improving at the bowling centre, since tuesday last week

Yes, there is deaf event one time a month at the same place, Starbucks, in San Antonio, TX. Their employees are friendly around with the deafies.

Oh yeah - I noticed when I was in U.S, starbucks are very friendly to the deaf communities and they often know how they do, in deaf culture, i.e deaf people talk until they are the last people to leave...

lol, yeah, we usually are the last people to leave, and that starbuck in San Antonio that we go is 24 hours open.

despite that I dont have any starbucks in canberra -- there are no 24 hours starbucks in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

It would be good- the only deaf awareness I've really noticed is at schools/special ed units. Though last week I went to a pub/restaurant which had live music so it was very noisy, and the bar staff gestured what they were saying- I think they did that for everyone out of necessity. One hand above the other moving apart to make a bigger/pint sign, and 2 fingers for the £2 price.

Every month we have an ASL social at a local bar/restaurant. They know there are 30+ Deaf or signers there, and treat us just the same as the hearing clientele...badly!

Not sure why we keep going :hmm:
