D-Link FAIL!

some over 60 company, model and vesion have avaiable at DD-WRT

exp: Linksys WRT54GS have diffrent 7 version but program limit to mega becuase limit flash memory
ver:
1 - 3 = up to 8mb - up to Mega
4 = up to 4mb - choose Std, VoIP or VPN
5 to 7.2 = 2mb - only micro

Supported Devices - DD-WRT Wiki

Remember Void Warranty, if brick or damage, can't replace, but you can how use un-brick at many website

Very interesting...I might probably find a old wi fi Linksys router and give that an experiment..depending on what model it supports.

Nothing is wrong with my D-Link router, it's quite a nice product if you ask me. Linksys on the other hand, not so much.

Very interesting information, thank you very much!

I once ugraded firmware in a Compusa Router....the firmware is made by edimax and it works. :) I have that old wi fi router sitting around. I got it for only $15 the time CompUSA was having a sale.

my mom got one for me on my laptop and i dont think d-link modem wouldnt work out!!

im wishes i would get one of linksys of my own somedays to fasters than slowers modem!!

I couldn't help but laugh to those who thinks faster router would make modem run faster. This is MYTH!

Modem speed is set by your own ISP! Yes, I mean they (ISP) have set the speed on your modem. No way you can change that speed unless you know the username and password to get in modem and change speed.

Look this way, cable modem tend to set 10MBPS (I am talking about average) download and 385KBPS (Or .385mbps) for upload speed, and your router speed would be 100MBPS, that is ten times faster than modem yet your STUCK with 10MBPS though the modem.

The only true for router to run faster is that IF you got lot PC inside the network, for example office that got 100 computers, that is WHEN router would make difference.

Yup, your post is true. :D

Sara, please trust diehardbikers.

I have a D-Link DSG-4100 router, and I do not have a problem with it for a year. It's a broadband gaming router with 4-port gigabit switch because I have the VP-200 and two Mac computers.

My VP-200 runs 264K speed so my router contains a gigabit which is not necessary, but it works mine with no problem. I had a D-Link 10/100 router, and it was worthless.

You might want to configure your D-Link Admin (enter it with no password) on the internet like this http://192.168.0.1 . But, I think that you might want to ask diehardbiker about the link first what he thinks about it. I got the info from Sorenson tech support on VP.

basically the 100 mbps routers are not fast enough for between computer to computer file transfers....a gigabit router is best for that or use a direct crossover cable or firewire mode to do that method. :)

I honestly wish the videophones out there are able to use many kinds of routers than just use Dlink routers. In my experience, they are unreliable routers. I don't know why they can't use Linksys or something else? I'm pretty sure you can configure it to work with a linksys router, only if Sorenson allows me to configure the settings in the network control panel....it's locked out with pin number field set up to prevent us customers configuring it. It's ONLY configured to work with D link routers. I'm getting tired of hearing them recommend using Dlink routers to work with Sorenson VP or MVP. I don't recommend them at all.

Had D-Link for a long time, no issues. If you claim the router you have from Sorenson doesn't work, replace it so you can sleep better at night. If you replace your router and decide to go for one of the newer routers, there's no need change your VP settings. If you buy any new router, just be sure that the LAN address in the new router matches the private IP address "scheme" in your VP (192.168.x.x) and set the DMZ in your router to 192.168.x.125 and replace the "x" with the same number your LAN IP is set up with, which is probably a "0". If you don't know what I'm talking about, I suggest you to contact someone who knows networking and have them do it for you.

Based on my experience, there's probably nothing wrong with your current router other than the fact it is a little bit outdated and lacks the bells and whistles that the newer routers have. A firmware update usually solves the underlying problems. Just So You Know: Your VP isn't ONLY configured to work ONLY with the D-Link brand. It will work with any router that matches the same private IP address scheme, assuming a Sobot (SorensonVRS Robot) initially set it up.

I would be afraid if we change a few numbers on our IP address that allow other users to see us without knowledge. We could be blind watching on the news and picking our nose or scratching our ass or whatever. That would be awfully embarrassing... ;)

Uhh..... (raising an eyebrow) I don't think that's likely to happen if your VP settings are set up correctly. Example: Make sure your VP settings are set to automatically turn on the Video Privacy screen each time someone calls you. I wouldn't waste any brainwaves worrying about others watching you because your VP rings regardless if anyone is calling you by your VP number or your public IP address if a Sobot set it up for you.
