Which method of communication do you prefer ? And Which one do you use most often ?

I perferre asl but I end up talking with my voice like 90% of the time I am out of my house

I prefer ASL. It is a fairly even split between ASL and English with my wife at home right now as she is still learning but the amount ASL continues to increase. When I out, I am voice off most of the time. I generally write notes with most people or do simple signs where possible that most hearing can understand even if they don't sign. Occasionally, I'll run into a hearing person that signs which is cool so I'll sign with that person. I use my voice as little as possible.

ASL and verbal English... Right now it's more voice on :( since my family doesn't know sign that much. Dad is learning some...but it's hard on his hands (oddly despite being left handed he signs right handed...). I'd rather be with deaf people (absolutely loved being up in DC for the week last year :) )..but don't get out much because trying to conserve money and gas.

I use ASL 95% of time 5% SEE. I do not realize that I use my voice sometimes. People kept telling me that they could hear me whispering.

I'm late deafened, HOH since birth so I am vocal as I am BiLateral Cochlear implant. I do go full deaf from time to time and don't know much ASL besides basics, I can sign although slower than most and at a minimum I can understand more ASL than I use because I don't have anyone to practice with. I did take ASL I in college, just need to brush up on it and maybe take a few more courses.

Thanks for the comments all, it's nice to know :)

As for me, as my first language is Flemish, that's the one I use most of course ...

Next English , and recently with trying to learn ASL and a bit of Flemish sign as well, I even talk to my husband every now and then in sign... who meanwhile also understands like fingerspelling and some basic signs. even my kids started using some signs.

My 5 year old son was signing yes in asl the other day and then no in Flemish sign. Absolutely adorable :)

I was really good with the basic ASL ( more, milk, done, eat, hungry, poop, help...ect) because I was deaf when my son was born and he learned the basics too so we could communicate, this was even before he started talking. It worked very well for us being a stay at home dad. BUT once he got older and started talking, I couldn't understand him or hear what he sang and momma said I was missing so much. He got frustrated trying to explain something to me because I couldn't hear it got to the point he gave up trying to talk to me and would tell people my ears were broke. So then my wife sat me down and had a talk with me about getting CIs, so I started looking into it, went to some support meetings, met a bunch of CIers and with all the positive experiences I went for it and I love them. I still use ASL but its still basics as well although I want to be fluent in it. I'm very vocal and I think it confuses people when I don't wear the CIs and tell them I'm deaf... its a love / hate relationship.

Spoken Engrish w/family. With close dhh its PSE/SEE. At dhh functions/parties where ASL rulez, I try and force my PSE/SEE on them..sometimes it works, but mostly they over rule me! and make me suffer. SOB!
