Credit check for employment

From a business owners perspective it makes perfect sense.

I'm confused about what are you pointing.

Are you saying Sequoias's post make perfect sense or are you saying credit check make perfect sense for business owners?

that one. it does make sense for a business owner not to hire a person struggling with his own debt. his problem will become business owner's problem.

I wouldn't want to hire one either. you wouldn't either.

How does it become the business owners problem? My finacial problems have never affected my work place.

"can you please give me an advance?"
"can you give me more hours?"

and bunch of sob/headache stories. and if the employee has a dire debt problem, he is more likely to score poorly in work performance because of fatigue.

FYI - TXGolfer explained that a credit history is not the only factor to hire him or not. It's PART of many factors and a business owner is a judge of character so it's up to him if he's willing to hire that person or not depending on the nature of job.

That's ONLY if bill collector wins the case in the court, usually, judgement has to do with child support, restitution, etc and other obligations that the court had ordered one to pay. And usually the judgmental area is permanent part of record. While the rest up to 7 years or 10 years.

If bill collector never shows up in court, it won't be in judgmental section, just debt section of the report.

for ie... collection agency because you owe money

It is not in your eyes, your employer don't give damn about what your doing in your private life. What they see makes them think what you could affect their business. There are always bad apples on the employment floor and employer is trying to minimize bad apples and prefers hire better ones.

Once you become owner of business, and when you hire somebody, you could be legally liable for employee and you wanted to make sure that your employee don't do business in your rear.

For example, I checked your credit report and see that you are behind with child support, forget you! I don't want to deal with you and your child support officers and I am too busy for these BS. Bye, save my headache and focus more on my business not your business.

I guess I didn't realize that people did that. I've never asked any boss for anything more than what they owed me. I have had pretty much every place I've worked ask ME for extra hours and weekends. Maybe I'm just looking at it from the point of view of someone with my work ethic.

Good point.

That is why employers look at the report and not the score. It is a great predictor.

EXACTLY. It isn't about the number. A credit report is a great indicator of personal character. I would be able to see who's fallen on hard times such as KristinaB and whatnot and those who simply do not pay their bills. Seeing a huge hospital bill on there isn't going to make me reject an employee but if I see a whole bunch of $50 unpaid debts... you're not latching on to our company. It's all about guaging character. Try to pay your debts. Remember, this is the entilement generation we're dealing with.

If employers take credit check seriously so I will stuck on welfare for rest of my life, unless I move to 1 of 7 states.

Make attempts to pay your debt off. Even if it's only $5 at a time. It WILL weight in on how I guage your character.

HOLY YES! This is one of the things that I really hate about my job. I have to listen to their issues and I am expected to solve their problems for them. It is an unfair burden to place on me. I have let an employee go in the past for this. He was frustrated because I wasn't giving him the hours he needed. I didn't have them to give. Thankfully, Texas is an at-will employment state.

If I got a court order to pay child support but I told the judge that I don't have a job so the court requested that I have to look for a job in order to pay for child support. Alas, the jobs I applied for were not given to me because I have a bad credit. Then I would tell the judge that all employers won't hire me, therefore I am not able to pay child support. Thanks to those employers for making me win.

Hmm, I'm seeing the logic in this. It's sad that it might be necessary. I'm used to dealing with people that take responsibility for themselves it seems.

Good luck, I was in Child Support Unit, and it wasn't pleasant experience. Judges don't give damn if you can't get job. They see it all everyday and don't care much.

Once you made agreement with judge during divorce, judge are expected u to live up with the agreement and if you fail, it is your ass not theirs. So be careful what you agree with judge, it is always best to have experienced attorney as your defense.

Thank god I don't have any CS obligations.

So, my take from all of this is:
Have a good paying job, bills are paid in a timely manner and doing okay and also able to build up saving.

Crap - lost the job due to loss of contracts.

Unemployment is so little that you can barely make the minimum payments while still keeping a roof overhead and utilities and food.

Run out of unemployment, therefore, have to dip into savings to live.

Get a new job you say? Well, can't get one since I now have "bad credit" since I am not making full payments, only what I can afford. Also, have the bills there and even though I am paying on them, they think "took out loans when not able to afford it".

Looks again, and it's not loans on the credit report, it's medical bills that are not even in collections.

Still can't get a job.

Right?

Is that a fact?

Not every job requires credit check.

Right?

Thats not my point. My point is that not every job requires credit check, whats wrong with trying get job that don't require credit job?

That is one way employer can find out if you really want job not just to get money but wants to work. They technically are looking for real workaholic, not somebody that have been sitting on couch for years.

For hubby it was. He finally got one and we had to go over the credit report and explain everything.

Right?

that's why an employer is a judge of character. if he feels you're a good guy and he understands that you've had some bad luck... he'll most likely hire you in as long as you keep it professional and not bring home problems to work.
