unbelievable story!

My friend called me, and she is very upset. :( She gotten a bill from a debt collection agent from credit card.

They are billing her about $$200.00. She contacted to them and her mom who passed away 6 years ago. She explained to Credit card ( I think its discovery credit card ) that her mom who did paid off the credit card and Guess that didn't close the current account so Credit card building up the cost a fee every year!

My friend asked them to close an account, but They re refused and want her to pay and not close account till her mom verity it! So she told them oh yeah a bill to my mom s grave's address and argument with them. :pissed: so She asking for manager then talked about that so Manager recommend her to get mom s death certification, then they will waive it and closed the current account! Jeez :eek2:

They're too lazy to verfity that she's deceased, otherwise they expect her to pay the bill. *shrugs* That's really lame! 6 years ago is a long time!

You're not alone... as same other my friend who pissed off w/Credit Card company which kept pilling up high and charge continues which notified already death certificate and etc.. but they refused willing open their eyes.. So decide forward to their lawyer and work it up til clear it up the problematic w/credit card company. They are all want $ for their reason greedy..

Cost them expense for lawyer fee and etc.. pretty stupid credit card company!
Wasting their expense for nothing!

Tell you friend.. you're not alone..

Geez.. those credit cards are sure greedy.. they need to realize that your mom is gone and there's nothing they can do about getting the money.

There's new law. Supposely if, a parent dies, another parent will have to pay for deceased parent's debt. If, both parents died, then it is their kids who will have to pay their parents' debt that hasn't been paid off. If, parents & kids died, then it will be one of their relatives to pay 'em off. Can you image that ?

Gee, it's better to pay 'em off before you die to avoid headaches for the family. Oh, another thing... it's better if you save all the stubs or receipts that you paid them all off for your future evidence. Don't throw them away.

Ouch, that is not good. I hope that your friend can solve this problem.

Tell you about my experience, We were so tempted about credit cards. We end up 8 different. They hurt our credit report so bad. We swore that we will never sign and get new credit card forever. We don't have any credit card for 3 years. That is good for us. We don't want stuck with credit card bills and dont want leave them to my kids if we die. We are anti credit cards. lol

Does life insurance will take care of it? I don't know about how much is life insurance?

I can understand your point, however, as we all know...we don't know the timetable of precisely when 'death' comes knocking on the door..in other words, someone can suddenly 'go'. ;)

Do you have a link for this new law? I've been researching this, and I can't find anything "new". All the sources I found state that children are not responsible for the credit card debts of their deceased parents unless they were co-signers or joint account holders.

:topic: I am baaaccck. I am now on my computer, it is now fixed.

Phillips, I am sick of this crap about stupid credit card company is greedy @!#$ards! I feel very sorry for her. I hope she would be okay. I hope somebody of AD will help you.

I glad I took my classes about credit card, so I decided not getting a
credit-cards because I got a information about my teacher about this
some credit cards trying to SCAM you. But I knew, of course, I understand,
there are only credit cards for airplanes, hotels, and... um, I think... once more is... train travel?

By the way, I don't need to take a credit card. I had go to Las Vegas in 2005
for my 21st birthday, my aunt paying a credit card for me. :) I had fun
in Las Vegas two years ago. I can't believe it's now two years ago. :-o

I hate when that happens. Credit card companies are horrible when it comes to being up to date on deceased members. :(

Yeah, maybe it takes time for their clericals to go thru the obits during their free time.

:h5: I am very definitely agree with you! I hate credit cards! Guess what -- did you know that?! My sister had a bad news for me, that's bull%$#@!
But if she could be wrong?
Anyways, Best Buy requires anyone should have a credit card for computer, HDTV, laptor, and etc -- anything more than $500 in these prices. It's shucks. I need a Best Buy credit card, but I said, "No thanks!" NO WAY!
Please note: It may not be my opinion because my sister could be wrong?

I didn't know credit cards trying to bring up to date on deceased members?
How you did know that?

Please, accept my apologizes for not explainin' myself clear in my previous post. I didn't mention about " credit card ". I mentioned about " debt ". You are correct about co-signers or join account holders - it's either spouse or child who will be responsible to take care of the credit card debt.

I would like to leave a link here for other AD members to read, so they will know what they have to do in the near future when it comes to " debts ". :)

Yeah, I know what you are talkin' about. :) It's why I said it is better to pay the bills off before it goes to your kids. One step-mother divorced one man and she told the dentist office that she was no longer married to that guy who has a daughter. The dentist office billed a dentist billin' to the daughter because, she is over the age of 18 and no longer lived with her father.

Interestin' note here : The parents ( step-mother and biological father ) are not deceased yet and the daughter still received that bill.

New Law
OIC, that law is for bankruptcies, not for heirs.

So Phillip's friend is not responsible for her deceased mom's credit card debt, unless she was a joint card holder.

Good! :)

Oh, it's really so greedy and never been to apply for credit card, I don't want be in debt in near future.
