This is my crazy story!,
I took Jane Doe over to Olathe to tow her wrecked van out of tow lot. I came to jim's place today to get my white tow rope that he borrowed. He was not home at 2pm so I went to Scott Doe's home to borrow his tow "tape" and went to tow lot.
The Xllied Tow service, near old highway 56. It was few blocks to Olathe Police and Fire dept. Jane had money to pay for tow and storage fee. We went in the office (look like part home/office) and tow lot have gravel driveway connect to tow lot that u can easily overlook. The lady in office was by herself and Jane gave her DL to prove she's the owner of van. The lady look for the "ticket". Her office was disorganized with orange Tabby on table. Jane had to show her DL again and then finally woman found the 'ticket' and Jane planned to pay cash full but woman said must have Registration form. Jane said left it in her home. So I told Jane that maybe need check the van first to see if there is Registration form there. So she told lady she need to go to van and find it. We went to tow lot with to van and lady gave Jane her key. I was taking look at wrecked van and see how bad it is.
Man it's bad but it may be repairable. The bumper is okay (almost intact) and the grille and hood was crumbled and right headlight shattered. Cuz she ran into jacked up 4x4 pickup truck. the radiator is smashed and battery was turned about 30 degree following 'V' shape hood frame damage. Her windshield is intact.
So while Jane was digging into her van to look for her Registration. I asked the lady if van is total loss or repairable. She said it's up to insurer to decide. I closed the hood and lady saw Jane put her personal stuff in purse. Then lady became unhappy fast and said "she is not supposed to put things in her purse!!!". I told her it's Jane's van and she can take her stuff. Lady got mad and said No! That van is Mine!! She need to put it back!! I told lady no let Jane look for registration and don't worry. Then the hell broke loose and lady went bezerk! She told me to tell Jane to get out! I told her no let her find it and she have her name all over her personal stuff. Lady was pissed and yell at me get out!! Get out!! I told her no, let Jane finish. So Jane found the Registration packet and realized that she had insurance paper in it but no registration form. While Jane still digging in glove box and she was holding bills with her names and address on it. I told lady look! It's her name on it everything. Lady yelled No that van is Miinnee, I wish my husband is here!!. Then finally Jane told me she can't find it. I told Jane what happened cuz she didn't see what happened. She can't hear what going on. Jane was shocked and got out of van and told lady that's my van and my stuff!!! The lady yelled back No u must prove with Registration form. Jane shot back saying I got driver's license and all my names in there. Then lady shot into roof with fury and told us to get out!!. I told Jane why not lady call cop and have cop verify her van lic plate to prove it. Jane told her go on and call cop now!!
I was calm and cool amongest her Wile and fury from the start. I think I intimidated her with my mean looking sunglasses for the entire time. Lol
Guess what she said....!!!!!
The lady REFUSE to call cop!! SHE DON'T WANT TO CALL THE COP!!!! In my mind "WHAT!!! What are u hiding from!!"
Man can't believe it. We told her fine we'll go over to police and have them prove that van is hers! The lady shot back saying we are close at 5pm and if u don't bring Registration. We'll charge u $25 a day tomorrow. Jane called her "Mean B***h". And we walked off while lady was yelling at us.
Then we walked off and drove to police station and jane spoke with receptionist and she called the tow lot and made face that pissed manager was mad and then referred to police officer. 10 min later police officer came out with note and gave it to Jane. Saying that they can't do much to get van out except to bring registration. She sighed and shrugged then left. Jane was pissed cuz it's past 5pm and lot manager is charging another $25 for next day. We took off and I drove her home and dropped off then we explain to her hubby abt it. Jane decide that she want to have police escort for security reason. I agreed.
Man!!! those tow lot lady is a Bipolar!!! Jane or anyone who own wrecked vehicle have rights to show DL and pick up personal items that may be very important and worry about registration later.
I never had problem with tow lot people 2 years ago that I wrecked my van and I showed them my DL then collected my personal item then took pix then before I left, I waved guy bye and he smiled and waved back.
So did my co workers and friends who had no problem with other tow lot service. Same thing what I mentioned recently.
Sheesh that was really drastic of her!! I do not believe that anyone would do that to their customer. Suppose if u forgotten ur medicine, medical documents or records, court paper, laptop, homework ect in your wecked car and you have to have it before it will tow to shop or junkyard, u have every rights to collect ur personal property cuz it's ur privacy protected by privacy act if you do not have Registration readily on hand. No tow lot manager can seize ur property!! U can call cop or lawyer to escort u to get ur stuff and keep crazy manager out.
Never know they may try steal ur identity on you. Sorry being blunt about it if one disagree with me.
