I got one person asking if the item I have is still available with a normal e-mail. I said, yes, and to let me know if he's interested without giving out a phone. He replied with a dumb scam to give him a bank address, p.o. box, more photos of the item, and that his company would pick it up because he'd be on a business trip. LOL

Seriously, why haven't there been a big report about this on tv to see what kind of people sit in front of a computer trying to scam people with this?

There is no law for people who want to take their money back if it is a scam. It is the only work if someone who works for a government, and the police can help them to trace the scammer. That's why the scammers know this one that success their business to target on people.

It can be so dumb for a person, the scammer, to show you the pictures and the bank info because he/she cannot be arrested unless any federal employee communicates with the scammer. Sometimes, some people able to get their money back as long as they are in the same state in order for the authority to arrest a scammer.

A common sense is the only way for anyone not to show their personal info and bank account on the email. That is the luckiest of all.

Unfortunately, you sent with your normal email address is likely to receive many different scam and pornography's links in your mailbox everyday or once awhile because you gave your email address to the scammer. The scammer makes money by sending your email address to a group of scammers in foreign countries. I had this problem with my eBay email that started the trouble, and I still have some junk emails once a month or so.

I saw good deal on house for rent on this website. I emailed the person, and got a letter back with very broken english saying they were in London now, and Id have to send $500 deposit to them to receive keys in mail! They wanted me to fill out an application, that simply would sum me up. Name, Address, Nationality?, Birthday. I googled renting scams and even found the REAL listing for the house. All in about 10 minutes.

Its always good to know what to look out for. A lot of these are scams. Sucks.

I don't give out information that they ask. It's just that some of them ask if the item's still available in different ways in a simple sentence. I have concerns that they are serious, but still you wonder if it's a serious buyer. You reply with a simple answer, and they e-mail you back with a BS story of writing cheque and a company will pick it up. Some of them e-mail you the BS story the first time without asking if the stuff is available. Of course, you ignore this.

I have had two people that seemed serious, but they never responded again. Guess they changed their mind.

It doesn't matter if they have the e-mail. People can always make a new one. Craigslist doesn't show your e-mail in the ad if you don't want to, but the buyer will see it when you personally reply to their questions.

Craigslist has a lot to improve on.

Finally sold one of my item. Guess you get so many of the scams until you get a serious buyer.

I think Craigslist might improve their website eventually.

I think Craigslist should make landlords/managements fill out detailed forms or something to sell/rent their properties on the website. It should prevent scammers/fakers from posting fake ads.

i use to have so much success selling stuff on that site. but now all I get are low ball offers or bullshit trades. Once I had a guy ask if I would trade my wrangler for his 500 dollar tv.

I don't really understand why the apt/home listings ask for 1-month realtor fee. that's just ridiculous. I refuse to pay such fee.

Yeah...happened to me before also (last year)....and I see ur in Ill., and I'm in Florida....When I emailed them about the house...they replied that they could "meet me" (but not at the house),...and I would have to give them a deposit first, then they would give me the key to look at the house.....For some reason or another, they could not meet me at the house....I knew right then it was a "scam"...so I emailed them back and told them to stick it up their azz.....

Also....I've replied in the "FREE" section before.....and get emails back saying "sorry, it's been taken"...but give me an offer for Dental Whitening, etc., it was just a ruse for business!....

You shouldn't bother e-mailing them back. They could use your e-mail for whatever purposes. I know someone who replied back to a scammer and had his inbox full of spam/junk mails the next day.

I've never had a problem with craigslist. I have only purchased instruments (probably 10 or more), gotten a pet, and rented off of craigslist- luckily no problems with any of that.
