Marijuana Growing Suspect Calls Police, Is Arrested
MARATHON, Fla. -- Police confiscated some marijuana plants and left a ransom note for their owner, who was arrested when he called the number on the note and agreed to pay for the plants, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Someone had called the Sheriff's Office to report marijuana plants growing on a wooded lot off Coco Plum Drive in Marathon. Detectives arrived to find six large marijuana plants.
The detectives confiscated the plants, leaving a note in their place, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The note said, "Thanks for the grow! You want them back? Call for the price…We'll talk," with a phone number at the end.
According to the Sheriff's Office, about 10 minutes after police left the note, 48-year-old Steven Alan Locasio called and asked what he would have to do to get the plants back. Police said Locasio offered $200 for the safe return of the plants.
Locasio met the detectives at the corner of Coco Plum Drive and Avenue H, and Locasio handed over the cash, police said. The detectives then arrested Locasio.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said detectives found 20 more marijuana plants, 4 pounds of marijuana and several OxyContin pills in Locasio's home.
Locasio and his wife, Christine Locasio, are charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and sale of marijuana.
