Well, US Constitution said US is supposed to be secular in government level, it means any religious laws, such as ban on gay marriage or abortion are supposed to not interfere with government, both of church and government are separated, that what US constitution said so.

Not everyone has equal lifestyle or same religious views when disagree with others, it supposed to keep out of government level and gay marriage has been legal in some other countries, additional, we are part of western culture too.
