Governor Brown easily signed the bill, because Indians in California are the largest population in the nation plus over 100 federally tribes. You have to realize that the tribes in California are powerful- thanks to casinos.

The minor baseball team, Spokane Indians approached the Spokane Tribe of Indians and asked them for permission. Spokane Tribe of Indians and the minor baseball team formed partnership and made changes to logos and uniforms with tribal leaders' help. Look it up. Spokane tribal leaders feel that it is important for residents in Spokane to know their history. The Spokane tribe even participate in events.

That's classy. They should use common sense and follow the baseball team/Spokane Indian partnership's example without involving the government. We don't need the bill. Removing the names of the tribes is not going to work and once they have been removed, they are not going to know their history and the original people's settlement.
 
I voted Confederate Flag mean the symbol of Ex Confederate states, Heritage and Racism.

Not surprised, I don't believe this university will be defund because Mississippi state legislature aware of controversy over confederate flag and they have no power to change - they require ballot to change the flag.

I do believe that confederate flag is part of heritage but they are controversial.

You still don't get it. Those flags they took down are viewed as a symbol of racism. That's why they did obviously.

Didn't you watch the video which showed that Blacks were happy when the SC government removed the flag?

You chose to be offended and believe in politically correctness.

In fact, confederate flag is heritage and used by CSA before reunited with US after Civil War. KKK wasn't formed until after Civil War as retaliation against black people, white carpetbaggers and federal government - most of representatives live outside of southern states. The confederate flag isn't symbol as racism but you and others chose to make issue.

You aren't different from anti-gay Christians who made rainbow flag as issue because they are symbol as anti-Christianity.

No matter if black people are happy about removal of confederate flag, but you have to deal with a lot of unhappy white southerners - they have majority power to kick Nikki out of office over politically correctness.

Do you think that I'm racist? I'm not true southerner and I'm not into politically correctness like you. Most southerners see me as outsider and I'm belong to northeastern US (NoVA and DC metro are technically part of northeastern region), also half of my families are from midwestern US (Ohio and Missouri).

I don't see confederate flag as racism but they are part of heritage and must treat with respect. I'm very familiar with southerners - of course, I live in Alabama and visit other southern states. They are pretty unique and different culture, that's not necessarily racist, also southerners are most religious group, in my experience.

There are northerners and westerners, especially Neo-Nazi misuse confederate flag as hate flag so those problems aren't limited to southerners. I'm not happy that hate groups disrespect the confederate flag but I have no control over hate groups - they are haters.

I understand your concern. If it's not a symbol of racism, tell me why the SC government as well as the FLA government and other places took them down.

That's part of experiment to remove the confederate flag to satisfy the people don't want see confederate flag on government properties - that's fancy version of politically correctness.

In SC, the confederate flag flied on historical site, that's separated from state capitol, that's for historical purpose, not government.

I'm not side with pro-confederate nor anti-confederate flags so there is no easy answer.

OK, don't you think that the museums are the best places to display the flag with the history? Look at Germany, they don't flag Nazi flags. The museums there show this sicko flag with the history. Why not here?

The historical sites are considered as museums, or outside version of museum.

Most, if not all confederate flags fly in historical sites.

Mississippi is unique case - it was decided by voters.

If those historical sites with the Confederate flag flown, they are going down, I guarantee you. Civil rights are too powerful right now. White southerners can't win. America is for every races.

You think so? It is major mistake to undermine white southerners and they control major of political system. They could use referendum to restore the confederate flag or elect the governor or legislator to restore the confederate flag. The voters had high success in Mississippi.

There is rule - never undermine the factions.

Don't like? Don't move to southern states if you can't deal with different culture or racism in progressive term.

Hey, it's 2015 so you are saying the white people still control the South? They will lose because our country won't stand for it. If JFK was still alive, he would abolish them definitely like he sent an army all over former Gov Wallace in AL, your current state.

Oh wow, it looks you don't conduct a research on demographic. I spent years on research about demographic in southern states.

In fact, white southerners are majority control in all southern states, exception of Texas, but in Texas, white southerners are majority for election purpose. They elect the republican politician that is one of most conservative in the nation. They have power to restore the confederate flag if they want, even they could add confederate symbol to state flag like Mississippi.

Technically, the segregation does exist today - that where most white students go to school in suburb as most black students go to school in city, that happens in most part of US, also in fact, northeastern states are most segregation for school districts as southern and western states are more diverse. The blockbusting does existing but under different name, that's called racial shift - that means real estate agents shift black families to all or most black neighborhood, also limited options as well. The racism is already BEYOND to confederate flag issue.

You make big mistake to undermine their power and it is very dangerous - they could have serious impact on political system so you shouldn't take them lightly and assume that they are weak. The racism does play in Tea Party as well.

I studied in sociology and it was part of my project to study on black people and white privilege.

To kick Haley out of office would require an impeachment, and that's not going to happen.

JFK sent 100 members of the Alabama National Guard to force Wallace to allow black students into the University of Alabama.
