Computer-Illiteracy?

Does anyone know anyone close who's completely computer illiterate? I'm talking about people who know nothing are very little about computers.

Here's one small thing I have to share. Last year, I was talking to my dad online via AIM. He said something and I replied with "LOL". He then asked me why I said that cuz the timing didn't seem right. I then told him that he said something funny so I was "laughing out loud". He then said that he thought it meant "lots of luck". He said that he's seen "LOL" and been using AIM for 5 years, and he thought it meant "lots of luck". Damn! I spent the next couple hours explaining AIM language! He didn't know what BRB, GTG, LOL, TTYL, etc... meant. Five years on AIM and he never knew what these things meant!? :crazy:
 
LOL Damn.......that is too funny!! I have a friend who keeps forgetting what "WB" means!! Like I'll say "wb" and she's always like "what's wb?"

when I first started use aim I thought WB was Were you ben lol Speaking of computer Illetrate this guy I know thought IE was a firewall haha
 
My mom is pretty computer illiterate in a lot of ways. I got her a slow computer for 50 bucks but it works. My pager wasnt working one time (out of many) and I was supposed to be meeting a friend but she never showed up. I asked my mom to turn on my yahoo messenger and see if my friend was online. She kept going to the yahoo website and eventually she logged into my email. I kept saying MESSENGER, Mom, MESSENGER!! I even told her to go to the start menu and then she'd see yahoo. 20 mins later I was fed up and gave up. The next day i went over and showed her what I wanted her to do and she went "oh."

My gma is pretty compy illiterate too. We were talking about the Sorenson Video relay (gma and mom are both deaf, gma is dad's mom) Anyways she kept saying "i have no internet." And I kept trying to explain "Gma, AOL is your internet, you use the AOL program to access the internet through your phone line." Blah blah blah.. I tried to explain the concept of cable internet to her.. nope that didnt work.. gma said "if i get cable i will disconnect the phone and aol." I said how will mom call you or email you? She said "I will have cable." uh no gma, I cant call you through the cable, I can send you email but if you dont have AOL, then where will I email you? ... Yeah it went on and on and on. I love my gma but UGH! :)
 
I know how to work on office software programs you know Excel, Word, Powerpoint. I realized that if you dont know how to work on those programs most companies wont hire you because you are too computer illiterate for them.
 
:lol: Yeah...I have a few friends who are always asking either my husband or myself for help on any problems they have with their computers -- hubby and I reckon those people should be BANNED from owning and using a computer, period! :D

My Mum in law is almost hopeless with her computer as she's always screwing her computer up somehow and has to have the hard drive formatted a number of times, just because she fiddled around with a file that wasn't supposed to be tampered with (in Windows System folder). :roll:
 
I refused to use computer language. I prefer full 100% english-illiteracy.

It's only the way I could stay learn in english. :)

Over four years ago, my dad froze my AOL account because he thought I was downloading porn. The weird thing was that I was at RIT at the time and don't need AOL to get online since I didn't have a computer and used the computers in the computer lab. They even have T1 connection so I don't need AOL to get online. I asked him what made him think that I was downloading porn. He said that he had found some files of naked people. One of them was a picture of a naked guy laying down on some hay. It was on his computer (family computer) at home in Texas. The other thing was that it was dated during the time I was still in New York. He strongly believed that my sisters weren't capable of doing this. He also thought that everything I download from AOL will show up on his computer because it's his AOL master account that we're all using. I then reminded him that I have absolutely no interest in men like that in any way. I also reminded him that what I download only goes to the computer I'm using, not another computer that I'm not even on. It took me a week to convince him that it was my sisters doing that and he finally gave me back my account! Grr!
 
Sound like your sister's trying to get your trouble for downloading pornography.. And now it is time for you to get her back.. :D :wiggle:

Wow, that's just shitty *shakes head* :lol: Ur dad is worse than my mom and dad when it comes to computers!

Yep! That's how much hell I've had to go through during the last 10 years of using the internet! :crazy:

gee, that should be added to the Bill of Rights - 28th Amendment!
 
I thought those ppl are gone, but it seems like they are still here, so dont hesitate and donate your old computer to your computer illiterate neighbor!
