Not sure if this has been posted before, but my ASL teacher sent it to me and I LMAO.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3ai5IVfFdE]Coming Out[/ame]

I have seen this video before in another thread maybe about one or two years ago. It is nothing new and yeah out of this Great Britian, this grown man had to explained to his Mum that he was Deaf. She never paid attention or knowing that her son had been deaf all of his life or late deafend. She does not want to accept the fact that there is deafness in her family. She also was shocked to learned that her husband knew about his deafness and he signed just like his son. It just to show that many hearing parents do not want to accept their child`s or children`s hearing loss. They were hoping the deaf child or deaf children will be able to understand in the hearing world by lipreading and listening with their hearing aids or CIs. For hearing parents, it is just a fanatasy dream that the deaf child will get over it like the deaf child is going through the phrase. We will never change and will always be deaf for the rest of our lives.

It kind of remind me of my mother, she could not accept me for who I am

Please could someone provide me with a transcript please. I need one as I am deafblind but would be very interested in what this video has to say.

Very funny... and true, my dad still cannot understand the fact I'm HoH.

Please could someone provide a transcription for this as it sounds interesting but I'm deafblind so I cannot access it. So if someone could transcribe for this I'd be very grateful.

It is six minutes long.
It's just a joke of a deaf guy explaining to his hearing mother that he is deaf and always was.

He signs BSL and she speaks. At the end the father shows up and he is deaf too and the mother never realized it either.

The main source of humor in the piece comes from the fact that the "coming out" deaf of the young man parodies what many people experience when they come out as a gay or lesbian.

The mother is at first incredulous and will not believe that her son is deaf. She says, "Well of course you're different, you're my special boy, but that doesn't mean you're deaf..." and similar comments like that.

Man: Mum!

Mother: What, darling?

Man [signing BSL and talking at the same time]: I've got something to tell you.

Mother: All right, dear. Just a minute.

Man: I've been wanting to tell you for some time now...

Mother: This sounds serious!

Man: It is serious!

Mother [concerned face]: Are you ill?

Man: No! It's nothing like that.

Man: It's about me. Who I am.

Mother [concerned face]: What do you mean?

Man: The thing is that I... I... I'm different to [sic] other people.

Mother: Oh, I know that! You're my special boy...

Mother: Always have been,

Man: No, I mean really different.

Man: I've known for some time now...

Man: but I'm deaf.

Mother: No, you're not. You just don't concentrate enough. Always away with the fairies in your own little world.

Man: No, I mean really deaf, Mum.

Man: You see my hands moving? This is called sign language. Haven't you noticed?

Mother: Well... yes...

Mother: I've seen you moving your hands about.

Mother: But I thought you were being artistic.

Man: This is how I communicate... It's very important to me.

Man: It makes me feel free. You need to try and understand that.

Man: I'm different.

Mother: It might be a phase. I mean, maybe you'll grow out of it.

Man: No, it's not. I'm not the only one.

Man: I've seen other ddeaf people signing. They look so alive.

Mother: I can see you've thought about this a lot.

Mother: but are you sure?

Man: It's me, mum. I know that now.

Mother: How long have you known?

Man: A long time.

Man: When I was younger, do you remember when you went out shopping?

Man: I had a video, I kept under my bed.

Mother: A dirty video?

Man: See Hear.

Mother: If I'd only known.

Man: I've got some hearing aids too.

Man: I love wearing them.

Man; I want everyone to see my deaf identity.

Mother: What else have you been keeping from me?

Man: Er... there's a magazine.

Mother: Maybe you're going to grow out of all this?

Man: I won't Mum. I know who I am and I can't change now.

Man: You're going to have to accept this is me. I'm deaf.

Man: Some people exist in both worlds, but I'm not bi... acoustic.

Man: I want to be part of the deaf world.

Man: I want to tell you this - there's more deaf people around than you realise.

Mother: But what about the hearing world?

Man: I like it.

Man: But remember all those films we watched without subtitles?

Man: I never understood what was happening.

Man: And when you called upstairs?

Man: And when I came back with the wrong shopping?

Mother: Oh Jack ... Really, if I think about it, I've always known inside that you were different, a little more 'expressive' than other children.

Mother: But you're my son, and I love you very much. But I dread to think what your father's going to say about this.

Jack: Actually, there is something else...

[Father comes in]

Father [signing BSL and talking at the same time]: What's the matter? Anyone would think you've just told Mum you're deaf or something?

IT was good.... funny too but it's sad how his mother wouldn't accept it at first and was shocked to learn that her husband knows before she does.

Actually, for me that was another big source of humor in the movie. I think the father doesn't know that the son is deaf and doesn't know or won't admit that he himself is deaf. He is more in denial than anyone else!

Thanks Kylub! Thanks for transcribing this video for me. I found it really funny.

I have seen this video before and now you are saying that his father is also deaf. How in the world did his wife not know that he has been deaf for a long time Q. I thought he was hearing and already knew BSL very fluently. Now when I get to see what he was doing in the video signing and talking at the same time. Ummm, that make sense to me now that he is actually Deaf. Oh, what a strange video for a hearing mother and wife never knew they were both deaf all those years. Oh, come on. I mean that is terrible not knowing about deafness in the family. Gawd!!!

I thought the humor was funny. The director did a good job of depicting the difficulty of parent(s) accepting that their children are deaf.
