College Student Caught Driving 153 Mph, Deputies Say - Portland News Story - KPTV Portland
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A man from Corvallis was clocked driving 153 mph on an Oregon highway Saturday morning, sheriff's deputies said.
Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said the driver of a Mazda MZ6 was caught speeding on Highway 20 near Lost Prairie. A sheriff's deputy's patrol car physically shuddered as the Mazda passed it, Mueller said.
Deputy John Trenary tried to catch up to the car and found the car in a ditch off the highway. The driver, 25-year-old Christopher Goudy, and a passenger in his car were not hurt in the wreck.
Deputies said Gordy tried to turn down the first available intersecting road in hopes of avoiding Trenary. He took the corner too fast and lost control, Mueller said.
Gordy and his passenger, both college students from Corvallis, were heading to Bend to meet friends.
Deputies booked Gordy into jail on charges of attempting to elude an officer, recklessly endangering and violation of the basic speed rule. According to the sheriff's office, Gordy has an extensive history of traffic violation convictions.
