Need your feedback about CI with earmold and without earmold. I have friends wear CI with earmold because it hold the CI from fell off many times. Some my friend don't need earmold because it's comfort and air in ear.

My CI fell off and drop on the floor and rechargeable came out and pick it up. I am thinking about get earmold but I am not sure. I like the air in my ear. Don't you mind to share? Thank you.

I have a skeleton ear mold made of hard plastic to hold it in place. When I was a kid I had plastic surgery on my outer ear to keep my BTE from failing off the ear even with a ear mold. The surgery was not a complete success but it helped. I have my skeleton mold made to give me the most air possible. I just view it as a small price to pay for my CI protection.

My daughter wore an earmold for tthe first 9 months. It was a special earmold because she wore the T-Mic, but it was like a skeleton. After 9 months we tried her without the mold and she was fine. Our audiologist said that CI users, sort of, adapt their movements so it doesn't fall off, but it takes some time.

I don't wear CI, but Pinky.....try it and see if it works for you.
You could get a cool colored one.........Not to mention that when my business really takes off, you can get a very cool fashion accessory for it! (you can't without the earmold and tube)

Mine comes off frequently too. When you have a house to run, child to raise, dog to chase, they come off frequently.

but I had a very bad reaction to ear molds for years (my ears were always raw and itchy all my life because of earmold) so I just use a stronger magnetic headpiece.

I don't wear an earmould, I can do anything, even running and it doesnt fall off. I think it depends how well the CI hook fits on your ear etc.

It is a personal choice really, whichever you feel more comfortable with :)

You could always have Skeleton ear mould and keep it until you need it.

Have you tried the longer ear hook? Huggie?

If your magnet feels weak screw in more (clockwise) be aware for sore skin.

Yeah maybe my magnet coil is weak. My head's side turn down and BTE can be loose to fall off sometime. I have long tube huggies in store. I thought this is for kid.. LoL I rather to get soft skeleton earmold. I don't like the hard one because my skin is sensitive.

Strange reason, but I vote earmold. I saw myself at bedtime in the mirror while brushing my teeth, and it just popped into my brain that my naked ears look weird. :aw:

Huggies doesn't have to be just for kids. I know of adults with CIs that use them, especially when they're active with sports just to keep their CI on behind the ears. :)

What ever in the box doesn't have to be for kids, there is adults with small ears, floppy ears etc who uses them and found them helpful. I am using longer ear hook and that is for kids as they holds better on small ears, My ears are big but narrow so it fits well, no more sore top of the ear and it doesn't fall off.

My left ear is 2 half inch. I guess I will try to get on huggie.

Pinky, check out this website: Freedom Snugfit™ [xZ60971] - $36.00 : Cochlear, Innovator of the Nucleus Freedom cochlear hearing implant system

This would help you so much. its so much better than the earmold, trust me. I had the earmold before and i hated using it because it hurt my ear canal so much and having to clean it and get a new earmold and all the works. But since i got this product. I like it, its very comfortable and its adujustable and it doesn't fall off of your ear at all. SO it might be a little bit expensive, but its worth the money. the snugfit comes with 2 in the package. If one snugfit breaks, you have the extra one in case. I like it alot, very comfortable. If you decide to buy it i'm sure you'll be happy not to get the earmold. It helps me alot too ever since i was in band.

I don't have my CI yet. I just had my surgery this past Wednesday and my activation day is scheduled for December 22. But I have given some thought to the topic of this discussion. I've talked to friends who have a CI already and they've brought up the issue of it falling off. I happen to be a magician and magic creator so I guess it's just along the lines of how I think. When I know about a problem I try to use my imagination to see if I can come up with a solution. Most of my ideas are stupid but every once in a while I get lucky. LOL

Anyway. On this issue I have a few ideas.

One idea comes from someone I know who has a medical condition and has to have something tapes to his body every day (Has to do with the fact that he had colon cancer). So this made me wonder if it was possible for some kind of tape or adhesive to hold the CI to the back of the ear.

I also thought about magnets. Such as one holding the CI to the ear. Kind of like one of those magnetic ear rings.

I didn't think about the ear mold. Interesting.

How about some kind of wire of clip that goes around the ear.

I'm just thinking out loud here. When I get mine I'll of course have hands on experience. But I just thought I'd mention these possibilities.

Ron,

I did tried the Freedom Snugfit but it made my ear sore. I went back to my ear mold and it is very comfortable with it. I have the ear mold made by one of the best audiologist I ever work with and she knows that I would preferred not to have a ear mold so she made it comfortable for me. There are clips on that you can use that is like a safety strap that would prevent the implant falling to the floor. Good luck and I am sure you will find out what going to work the best for you.

It's not wire of clip. It's tube huggie similar like earmold's tube. You will see the Nucleus Freedom with big box have many accessories for your activate day.

I'm getting the Nucleus 5. I'll let you know if anything comes with it in regards to this issue.

Ron

as I have seen in school it's all personal choice , i have seen some people with extened ear hooks to keep them from falling off as well a odd clip on the ear.

Like I said a few posts up. I know the kind of person I am and if I have this problem I'll likely end up fiddling around with different solutions. I have likely minded friends who will probably love the challenge too. Put it this way. One friend is the founder of The Geek group (They remind me of Myth Busters in their shop. LOL), Another friend makes masks, special effect and all kinds of things at Gerard Enterprises. And we magicians are hiding and securing gismo's to our body and clothes. :)

So who knows. Maybe we'll try some things out. If we find some solutions I'll come here and see if any of you would want to test them out.
