Dunno what oblige means, however i'll try and post a picture or two. And the big day starts at 9:50! Good thing ill get to sleep some more during surgery! haha

LOL, sounds like you are excited!!

I think what Botts meant is that the tough people would happily look at gruesome photos... I had posted them, Deaffy had too and few others have.. shall I post one on for you to compare?

Yes. I love the gruesome photos and the adventure stories of the CI crowd.

Not a qualifier, but I am fascinated by the technology.

Hey Z,

Hope you are healing well after your surgery today!

Well quick note on the photos. I will have some and if people don't mind i might have one of the actual wire inside my head (the hospital took it during surgery).

But on the note of Surgery, I am out and doing pretty good. I think reading on here may have helped a lot as I knew to expect this bandage to hurt.

Good news is, I have no balance issues that weren't there before, I have no ringing in my ears, and as far as I know there were no complications in surgery!

I got out of recovery at about 6. Also I found out the my ear doctor turned out to be my CI surgeon as well, so at least I knew he was experienced!

I will probably keep posting on here until activation day and when I get my full hearing back and then I may long on like once a month to post in a different thread. Probably mostly threads about CI's though.

Again thanks for all the good luck wishes. I only wish that i could have had both ears done today. 1 for better hearing and 2 so that i don't have to have surgery again!

Glad you came through ok. The wire inside the head will make you unique among AD pictures if you manage to post it! :fingersx:

i think you meant till activation, i just had implantation. lol

But yes tis very good news. and the pain medicine is starting to work! So i'm not feeling as much hurting

Glad your surgery went smoothly !

Take it easy while you recover, do exactly what the drs say regarding what you can and can't do (especially stuff like bending over, picking things up etc - that's VERY important)

I'm sure the month will fly by - you might want to keep a journal (pen & paper) or a blog etc on your journey ... many people do and find that it not only is therapeutic (allows them to vent any frustrations, concerns, questions they may have for various Drs etc) but also helps them see how they're progressing - it's easy to feel like the steps you make are "tiny" , until you flip back a few weeks or months and realize how many things you've achieved (emotionally, physcially, aurally, orally, socially etc).

P.S. I hope you got my PM (3 actually, 1 message split into 3 parts due to the length)

Please feel free to PM me any time

Today's "day one" of one of the greatest adventures you may ever take.

Yes I got your messages but haven't looked at the site yet. Havent had much time between MRI and surgery. Also need to have mom sit down and look with me as she'll probably help decide!. Pain meds finally kicked in and i'm still feeling pretty ok. i've never been able to swallow powdered pills so i had to have them put in capsule form. took a little longer for them to kick in.

All is going well though! And I will try and post that pic of the wire in my head. Its kinda cool!!

Zebadee2010, that's great you are done with the surgery, was your cochlea ok when the dr inserted the thing inside it? you said you had some accident that hit your head and ears area, right and you dr were afraid that the cochlea may be damaged in shape? I think it may have been not damaged otherwise they would not be able to insert the electrodes and this is way they did the MRI for you, right.
Keep us updated :)

Happy to hear that you are doing so well. Here's hoping that activation goes as smoothly as your surgery did.

I said that my left cochlea was cracked. My right one was perfectly fine, he was just worried about putting the longer electrode in that the Med-El had. he didn't know if my cochlea was large enough. He also said that in a year or so after my left cochlea has had time to heal that it may be possible to get a CI in that ear if bone hasn't grown into it or anything. Hopefully that will be the case.

Glad your surgery went without a hitch. You are on the homestretch now. Feel free post questions when you need. Comming here helped me alot with recovering from surgery and waiting on activation. I cant wait to see how it goes for you. The CI is pretty neat to hear through. Have you noticed a difference with hearing your own voice?

Actually no not really. I still hear it mostly fine. This could be because i still have my other ear that wasn't implanted but it also has a cracked cochlea, so i honestly don't know.

And for the record the ringing must take time to come, because it has definitely came. But i'm trying to talk it into leaving

this is the one from during surgery

I got my hair cut really short before hand so that it wouldn't look as weird for as long. it should all grow back at a somewhat normal and even pace..

Also i did get the Cochlear americas nucleus 5. I wanted med-el but they said it would be harder to put in
