I had checked some of his post that complain to being deaf and he don't accept to being deaf. He want his hearing back but we need your help to explain how CI would works on him, also oral language can be on lesson for him. He don't believe me about CI but please make sure to encourage him to accept for get CI or need stop complain about deaf issues.

Thanks... Please don't insult him, just give something to help if he can accept to get CI.

Buckdodgers,

I know that you won't hear the exactly same same way with CIs like a hearing person would hear. BUT...it's better than not hearing ANYTHING at all. And from what I understand, you can even enjoy music and stuff like that. Think about it. I have always been aware of this and still want a CI.

Thats right! From what I understand, with training and time, it's possible that he'll get enough benefit from the CI to enjoy music. Even if he doesn't, it's still better than being locked in a world without sound or without a way to communicate effectively.

Even if he choices to remain deafened, that doesn't mean his life has to suck. He can learn ASL (or another signing method).

What I am for is having a positive outlook regardless of your circumstance. I'm hearing, but one thing I'm reasonably sure of is, life does NOT have suck when you lose your hearing, or lose more of your hearing. It's all in how you deal with the circumstance you're in.

and besides I thought that the evidence pointed to more nautral hearing if you were relatively late deafened.

That is very true. If you are late deafened and have already had experience in decoding auditory stimuli, adjustment to CI is easier. If you have been deafened from birth or prelingually deafened, you must learn to decode auditory stimuli as an infant would learn to decode environmental sounds from birth.

This depends somewhat on the level of hearing stimulation that the prelingually deaf or birth deafened person received in the early years. I am prelingually deafened born with a severe/profound loss but did well with hearing aids until adulthood when I loss the rest of my hearing. So far I'm doing pretty well with my CI 7 weeks on. However a person who never received hearing stimuli is less likely to benefit from a CI as an adult. I personally know someone in this situation and he just got headaches and gave up with it.

When CIs first came out we prelingually deaf adults who had received stimulation through hearing aids were not even considered to be suitable candidates. Since then the technology has evolved and has allowed us to gain more benefit. Many of us feel that we are getting better input than we did previously with hearing aids.

I totally agree with your statement. Same here except I still had "enough" hearing to use a HA at the time.

I will attest to that as well! I can't recall if I ever heard this well before...

I have other reason to quit wear CI because I'm very confused to learn to use oral laguage but some deaf children are doing successful, not for me.

I got 10% benefit for HA then I wear again in left ear for school.

Yea, I accept my deafness but if children can't accept it then get CI or commit suicide to make rebirth, that what I believe in religion views.

I don't understand why Buckeye didn't start a thread on his own. He couldn't be that scared for you to hold his hands through this.

We aren't cruel, right?
