I recently purchased a new flat screen television. For the over the air local stations there are real issues. When I use DirecTV, an older and not HD unit, I cannot adjust the closed captions; they are small and hard to read. They sometimes appear in the middle of the screen instead of the top or bottom. I can adjust the captions and they appear in the proper position when I use local, over the air, broadcasts. What can be done about this? The captions worked fine on my older televisions.

Thank you.

I would go back to the store you got the TV came from and see if they can help you!

Not enough information.

flat screen television??? Which one... Tube or LCD or Plasma or DLP/rear projector?
What brand of television or monitor?
What type of cables (use super video? RCA? HDMI? etc)

Have you try without DirecTV?
Did you try use antenna connect new TV? How is good CC from Antenna?

Does DirecTV box have set up CC (digital color, size of fonts, etc)? If, you still have old DirecTV box then you may need upgrade to DirecTV HD box.

Suggest you call DirecTV's tech support or customer service.

The older DirectTV does not have built in CC but it have analog CC.

I recommend you ask about upgrading the DirectTV box to a newer DirectTV box that have built in CC.

New DirectTV box then you can use HDMI on your new TV and a much better picture too.

Also New DirectTV box let you adjust font and color of CC.

I am a DirectTV subscriber for many years.

DirecTV have nothing to do with CC...

Ask for a new DirecTV box and use RCA jacks... HMDI jacks can prevent the full CC code from coming through...

We dumped DirecTV because of their lousy customer service and switched to DishNet.. We are glad we did ...

Seem you are not aware on latest feature of new DirectTV box.

DirectTV new box have built in ready decode CC

You can get Analog and HDTV shows with CC via HDMI because the new DirectTV box already decode the CC before it send to TV thur HDMI cable.

DirectTV new box CC is very good and I can adjust fonts and color and size small or big large letters.

HDMI cable never will carry CC thru. You have to enable CC from DVR or box; not TV.

I am agreed with you. I use directv HD with HDMI for almost 2 years. We have no problem with CC.

Hmm!! I am using DirecTV's service since May. I have a directv box without HD. BUT! Understand, i was bought a LCD TV after i got a DirecTV box for my bedroom and living room. I was called DirecTv Customer Service, they sayin i don't need one because it's just good pictures quality .... sometime i do not like their pictures but i have digital TV in my bedroom, tho. I can't afford to upgrade for HD DVR Plus Receiver, it's cost meh about $199 or HD Receiver, It's cost meh about $99.

When did the new DirecTV box come out ? We just switched to DishNet 2 months ago..

HMDI carries the signal, not make the CC ... Like any other cable such as RCA jacks or ohm line ...If my memory serve me well it had to do with the firmware not working with the HMDI cable protocol

You are correct

HDMI does not make CC is correct. HDMI cannot pass CC either.

BUT ......

DirectTV box already make the CC and HDMI carries the video with CC already on it to HD TV.

The DirectTV HDTV box with CC been out for awhile, maybe 2 years or so. You had to turn on CC inside DirectTV HDTV Box option menu and turn off CC on your TV.

firmware do not matter about HDMI cable protocol or not.

My Directv HD DVR is two years old and don't update firmware since.
