Okay so I play a lot of MMOs. I'm putting out another call for anyone who plays any of these games. I'm on Freedom server in COH and COV and on Silver Hand realm in WoW.

I just started playing WoW and from a hearing perspective, it seems pretty deaf-friendly. All the important information is either written out or shown in text balloons; I think the only non-"captioned" dialogue is when you click on someone and they say "How are you?" or "Great to meet you!" But there is an important audio clue when you get attacked when not expecting it, as the beast makes some kind of growl or hiss to let you know it has seen you and is attacking. Is there a visual clue to this as well?

Also, are there any deaf-related guilds or supergroups on these games?

I have my own Guild Wars guild (25+ older guild) We have about 30 members right now and have been around since May - and going strong. I am picky about who we pick up and who we dont. And as for WoW being deaf friendly - in a PvE environment yes - in a PvP environment - NO! Because most guilds use Teamspeak or Ventrilo to communicate who blasts who and who does what. But deafies can still communicate via text but it is a bit more challenging. :) I love WoW, I jsut upgraded my RAM so I am hoping this would work better. So I will probably activate my account this weekend! :)

But as for CoH I havent played that they have a new one COE? Evil chars?

Coming from COH I always forget that in WoW you have to specify PvP or PvE. I am almost exclusively a PvE player in any MMO so yeah, that's what I meant about it being deaf-friendly. I forgot about the Teamspeak thing since I don't use it; I play WoW on a Mac which doesn't support it and I play COH on a PC...but don't want to TALK to people, they're annoying enough as it is!

I have heard though that it's pretty hard to participate in a raid or a battleground without using Teamspeak, but I would imagine a deaf-friendly guild would have a lot more patience for coming up with ways around that.

If you end up on the Silver Hand server in WoW give me a shout. :)

And yeah, City of Villains comes out on Monday. (Beta ended on Wednesday and the two-day head start is going on now.) It's a standalone game but also works as an add-on to City of Heroes so it's really best if you have both. The nice thing is that if you play both games you only get charged one monthly fee. And there are PvP zones in COV if you're into that kind of thing, and you can build supergroup bases and raid them and all that PvP stuff I don't do, ha ha.

Aye - with WoW in Raids and Battlegrounds you do need to have Teamspeak, even though you can do without! But it is more effective WITH it. :)

What about Star Wars: Empire Divided and expasions? It's deaf-friendly but I'm not involved in this game but my bro-in-law is. I seen alot inside that game.
I thinks about playing new Star Trek Online when it's gone gold. It's still in developing stage and beta version likely be out in next year.
But Star Wars game seen very tight good game to me... :-o

I don't know about any of the Star Wars games, MMO or otherwise, but I know a lot of people are excited about Dungeons and Dragons Online coming out in the spring. I think I have enough games for now though.

Well, let's see...I regularly play COH, COV, WoW, Jade Empire on the Xbox, Sims 2, and every Monday I play Myst 5 over the phone with my friend in another city.

Meanwhile I have work and grad school.

My boyfriend is a video game programmer (for a real developer, not freelance) so obviously he doesn't discourage me playing new games! But someone has to...

Most recently he was lead programmer on the Fantastic Four movie-based game (console, not PSP). I can't talk about what he's working on now. :)

Wow! That is a great game. My son has the Fantastic Four PS2 game and he loves it! One of his favorites!

Well, that made him very happy to know! He wants to know how old your son is.

Did you end up starting up WoW again? :) My druid just made 18...two more levels and she gets to turn into a cat.

Druid is a VERY sweet class... I love that class... What are you NE? Human? Orc?

My boy is 9 and will be 10...

My daughter who is 6 fixing to be 7 loves the game too!

And believe me I play it too at times wtih them..

My druid is a night elf. I also have a level 15 dwarf hunter and a level 6 human rogue, because I can never stick with just one character. It's why it took me so long to get to 50 in City of Heroes, because I was always playing around with different archetypes and powersets.

My boyfriend very much enjoyed hearing about you and your children playing F4. When it was still in development he and I had a conversation one day about deaf gamers and I was mentioning how I thought all games should have caption options, and he came home one day and told me he had brought this up with his team. They did end up captioning most of the vocal cues for other reasons, but he gets points for trying, I think! :)

Are your kids deaf or hearing? What other games do they play?

That is my BIGGEST peeves for games.. Not all games are captioned... Im a FPS gamer and some of them are not captioned! :(

city of villains or WoW

What game should i start CoV or WoW i havent played either but both sounds fun so i would like some oppoins on both
