CI users only

They know from what their child tells them as interpreted through their own hearing filter.:cool2:

And children are very adept at telling parents what the parents want to hear.

My mom would definitely disagree with you. "I wish my daughter would JUST FOR ONCE agree with me!!!"

;)

I had one that didn't beat around the bush, either. But I still maintain that what I stated is true for the general population. You and my son are exceptions.

If children are adept in telling parents "whatever" doesn't that apply to the "cultural deaf" children as well?? Presumably the extended time for brain "development" in "children" doesn't apply to "certain ones"?

Another interlude into "alice in deafland" raised to a higher level "nitpicking"- computer style.

Does Google approve?

Who gives a f*** what Google approves of? Deaf of Deaf children are still children. However they have something in common with their parents that a deaf of hearing child will never have. The kids realize it. It is the parents that have difficulty accepting that fact.

As usual, you haven't a clue what you are trying to talk about.

Cochlear Implants

Do you have a problem with Cochlear Implant? I have a problem with Cochlear Implant because Magnets went down to near my ear, it was not supposed to do that... and I felt it shocks and have a bad bad bad headache all the times, and it makes me don't feel so good. I had cochlear implant when I was 9 years old. I explained to the doctor what I felt and everything what's going on… We have been struggled with Medicaid and they said I am not under 21 years old and won't have a surgery to fix it. I tried to prove them that I had a medical problem but they won't believe it...

Hi amsgibb01. I have had my Cochlear Implant just over 4 years- so far no magnet has gone my ear. Are you referring to the one on the internal processor? I don't think it could be the external-too big? If it is the "internal"one- how would the external one "tranfer the signal" to the internal one?
Am I misreading you?

it sounds like the internal device migrated out of it's original position. That can happen if the surgeon does not tie it down. It has nothing to do with the device maker.

If that happened, would it be obvious to the doctors that it is fucked up?

and now they don't believe her?

Yup, "Implant her, get the coin and run" syndrome.

the skull won't be the same when you get older from infant or toddler. That's how it goes wrong since the technology don't grow but human do. So technology ends up no where but in a wrong place.

Utter nonsense..!!

Just think... A child implanted before his/her first birthday.... it will have no problems growing up..
Lotte got her CI when she was 2+. Now she's 9+... You think she hasn't grown..??

Think..!!

That would be the first thought of people that are against CI..

People that know about Ci and how they are placed are wondering if the surgeon used a technique where there is no recess drilled in the outer layer of the skull, but the implant is place on the outside without recess.... In that case, it might move when something goes wrong..

Anyway.. it would be easy to check what / if the implant moved..

Precisely.

That's cool for you to think it is silly but it's your opinion, not mine. It is MY opinion based on witnessing others experiences with CI, not only members on AD, and i had friends who had CI. It is similiar as what I had surgery somewhere in my body and i can see that it has been changes since 18 yrs ago. it is not the same as today. I can image with CI or other foreign objects that wont change but human does.

From my experience by the surgery on skin that feels so different and not same due to the more sensitivity.

Asking if a child will 'outgrow' the implant and it will need to be repositioned is a reasonable concern to have, but of course it's one that surgeons address as part of the careful planning they do when determining the implant site. The cochlea and middle ear structures are at adult size when a child is born, that doesn't continue to grow. The mastoid bone does. So, the 'wiring' is at adult length, and the bit of slack that exists for a child is placed in position right up by the skull so that as the mastoid bone increases in size, it slowly draws on the slack in the electrode lead without displacing the array that's much deeper. There are several 'anchors' in place, including one that supports the array and resists any 'pulling' out of position as the body's tissues shift during the healing process and over time. And the 'bed' that the receiver, the part of the implant placed against the skull, is created with room for growth, with comfortable placement of the exterior coil in mind, and well away from the incision itself to avoid any wearing down of the healing skin (that's why there's such a distance between the scar/insertion point and the implant itself).

Are you dismissing this poster's claim? Typical of people who are in denial, ya know.

BTW - Why do you like to repeat what others said? I clearly said "If that happened, would it be obvious to the doctors that it is fucked up? "
