Hi, My name is Jorge, and I'm 22. I'm originally from Houston, Texas but have been residing in Georgia for almost 20 years. I was not born deaf, instead I was diagnosed with spinal meningitis at the age of 5. I then received a cochlear implant that made me hear again. My speech is really good. Although I know very little sign language, I'm hoping to find someone that can teach me. I depend a lot on reading lips so having a conversation at times can be tough for me. I've been a late to introduce myself to the site as I found it again and realized that I signed up in 06. :giggle: anyways i'm looking to make some friends and find some more people that are CI users as me i've only met probably 3 CI users and mostly younger than me. Hopefully this site can help me network on that. well if you want to chat let me know i'll be happy to make new friends
 
welcome to ad! :) i'm also a ci user. i have bilateral ci's and received my first implant in december, 2004 and my second in february, 2006.

out of curiosity, what ci brand do you have?

I have a 3G, i received my first implant back in March 1996. I only wear one though. Although I still have trouble in the communication process with hearing people. (I'm usually the last to know about something or anything at all) I've been coping with the depression of not being able to communicate well or as much as I hoped to since i've gotten my implant. So i'm trying to do something about it with getting experiences from others that have been there as well.

Had Spinal Menigitis at 2 yrs. But I wear BEHAs

yeah i used to wear BEHAs before i had a CI, they didnt really work out for me, so my parents got me a CI, i really had no decision in this since i was like 6 years at the time, cause I really have no memory of me telling my parents I wanted a CI, so I'm pretty sure they got it from me and heard about it through a friend.
