given that his CI is museum quality, in terms of age -- most with that equipment have upgraded long ago -- it's not on the 3-year warranty any longer, .

Recommend upgrape and new MAPP

Right. That's why I think pfh's suggestion of using a metal detector to find it isn't a bad idea. Might as well try. No idea on the condition of it though.
