I recalled about last 6 years ago when after got implanted. The doctor said that not allowed to play football due unsafety for head with CI in it. I just feel BS at doctor but who cares about can't play football. I used play football at high school before and just wear helmet, that better thing to protect CI with football helmet. I know that my uncle is against on CI because he want me to focus on football and give a optional to join football at university and join NFL, he want me to be deaf football player at NFL in future then I can't do that.

I ignored doctor's request, that BS but I know that some students have CI since they are football player, also give a experience about good football player in future.

The reason why the doctors dont want you to play football while wearing a CI is because the helmets have been known to either fail or can break if hit hard enough.

You were lucky all those years not to have been hit hard enough or to have it dent in. Granted the times stuff like that has happened are few and far between but the risk is still there.

They dont want you to take the risk with a CI and have it possibly happen right at the location you were implanted at. It is actually good advice and one I would listen to.

For people from Europe, its not confused with football and soccer.

Football in USA (It's means football, not soccer)

Hopefully would get it.

Pac, get your facts straight and read what others say carefully!. Bear knew exactly what you were saying and gave you excellent information and advice. She was not confused about which football you were talking about. The giveaway was the word "Helmet" and we all know that soccer players do not use helmets.

The doctor is not giving you any nonsense about wearing a CI and playing football. Football has a much higher risk of head injuries helmet or not. I totally agree with the doctor that one shouldn't even consider football at all and do other sports instead. You can't put a price on decent hearing and it is just not worth it no matter how much one enjoys the game. Like most guys, I have played many sports and freak injuries and accidents do happen and have happened to me (nothing major fortunately) and others over the years. It is just the nature of sports. Most sports don't really run the risk of head injuries and those are the ones that you should focus on.

A piece of advice...life is full of risks no matter what you do. You can be walking down the street, fall down and hit your head. It happens abeit not very often. The trick is to weigh the risk factors and do the best you can to reduce the higher probabilities to manageable levels. Football is not one of those activities you can do that...so just walk away from it. Play flag if you gotta play it...at least the risk is much more manageable.

Just remember foolishness is not a virtue.

#3 post is only targeted for European like Cloggy, not Bear.

I don't care about playing in dangerous, football isn't bad for me and helmet protect me. Every doctors are different like said football is fine to playing and it does happen to my friend. Football is my hobby and not care about risky.

See? I have no problem with conflict between CI and helmet then just fine for me.

I'm sitting here in amazement at the reckless disregard for one's health and well-being and shaking my head... Soars, you're right, each to their own...

People with CI cannot to do scuba diving in underwater. That's unbelieve because doctor don't realize about scuba diving and what's biggest factor for scuba diving that who people have CI.

Ice diving would kills my tastes.

 That may be but it is not the worth the risk to me. Football is risky enough without a CI let alone with one.

Each to their own...

Yea, also for greema, I'm doing on my own risk then both of you are right.

I'm not sure but someone can test it if too risky or not. I don't understand about what happen with scuba diving but it seems rumors and probably haven't test with CI.

If successful then that great news for diving fans.

Er...they can but they are limited to a certain depth which I understand it to be around 100ft or less.

You can scuba dive up to 82 ft with the Freedom internal device.

Scuba Diving with CI

Of course, you must take the external piece off before you go into the water - while it is water-resistant, it cannot be submerged.

You are, and it's stupid.

For someone who has supposedly had a CI since childhood, you should have been told what was acceptable and what wasn't.

Apparently, diving to certain depths is permissable. But, playing football is definitely stupid. Football is dangerous even for someone without a CI. Someone who's had concussions, for instance. If you get "dinged" in just the right spot, you are asking for a date with the grim reaper.

You may think it's worth it, but obviously most people in your situation would value their hearing and forgo the dangers.

Why you don't is beyond me.

I see, I got it.

I hadn't been to swim in deeper water since after got implanted, in around summer 1999 or so. Only my last time to reached around 30's ft. but not diving and just swim around with safety vest.

How I'm beyond you? I don't understand. :dunno:

Yea, I know that football is dangerous for everyone but I just discuss about football players with CI, some of them are doing well and know about their own risk. I agree with greema and sr171soars about doing on my own risk but doing well with football for 2 years then quit in 11th grade due bad ankle injuries.

I don't think that football is stupid and its good for men that who want doing active, exercise, training, gain more cooperation with team and experience with good behavior. That's your opinion about football is bad.

Whatever... Btw, I was slightly offbase. It won't kill you to get hit with a football or tackled, but if you got hit in the head, your internal peice on the CI could be damaged.

Oh, and my statement "being beyond me", simply meant ...I just don't understand why you would want to sacrifice your ability to hear that way. Most people in your situation would appreciate their ability to do so, and wouldn't want to risk it.
