CI Dr telling mom she's a bad mother

You can't report him. He didn't do anything to you. Just thank god this mother didn't fall into the trap. So much for the medical community not putting pressure on parents, huh?

Why not? If jackie is willing to do so, why not give her the name of this doctor and let her try. Jackie has already demonstrated an amazing ability to take on institutions.

If this is a real doctor who said this, then people need to know who he or she is.

Seriously, though - did this doctor really say "you're a bad mom for not having him implanted and stuff"?

That is so unprofessional of doctor telling her she a bad mother just because she said no and protecting her son. I think too many doctor like that are so greedy. She should sue his ass and tell him get lost. I don't think that makes her a bad mother. Doctors got no right to say things like that. Hope she sue his pant off!

I have a feeling that this doctor is in Australia since the OP lives in Australia.

Because he did not do anything to her. One can only report a physician if one has had direct contact with that physician, and if that physician's contact directly had a negative impact on them as a patient, or on the child for who they were responsible. This is an ethics violation. It is decided by peer review. Jackie can go ahead and report him, and they willl laugh and throw her report in the trash.

Where did it show a direct quote of the doctor? In the OP, the doctor's words were paraphrased bythe person relating the incident.

This is far from the worst case. I read in a deaf bulletin from norway, that a couple of parents have been reported by a state governed children defence department(what do you call that in the us?), after a doctor reported that the couple did not want CI for their kid, and considered that child abuse. This case is probably going to court, if no one agree. Another deparment is sending out a different message, and starting to question the denial of sign language to some of those children, in spite of 4 of 6 not able to talk in the phone with CI.

I hope this goes to court, for the sake of information to the publicly. The medicine community seems to be under pressure several places in europe and it's like the glory of CI is fading for each implant done here.

I'm sorry, but that's what the various collleges of Physicians and Surgeons are for. If you have a complaint against a doctor, bring it to their attention. They will deal with it as appropriate and the complaintant will have full knowledge of the proceedings and will have the ability to complain to "higher powers" ie supreme courts, etc. So if this is a real and legitimate claim, the mother should follow the appropriate procedures, and this knowledge will become public, and the doctors name will too.

Could I have the reference for the original post or is this just heresay?

P.S. Rick: Alligators do exist in the sewers. As do Ninja Turtles.

I.

In the original post it says "I heard this from a friend who got a personal account from this mom...."

I missed that part. :ty:

Still, if that is truely what happened, it needs to be addressed.

It is very wrong of the doctor to tell the mother that she's a bad mother for not having her child implanted. She did her homework and made an informed decision not to implant her child. That is not child abuse. That doctor should be fired and have his license revoked permanently.

However, it should be pointed out to her that they do not drill into your skull to implant someone.

I'd say that the doctor was wrong to tell the mother she's bad for not having the child implanted. As far as I'm concerned, it's up to the parents to decide and I strongly prefer that the deaf child learns sign as I've seen far too many cases where they were language delayed regardless of wether or not they've been implanted.

Hmm... a "friend of a friend" story.

You sure it's true?

Again, resorting to blatant lies. Are you related to the doctor in the OP?

How would I know, since he or she is not named?

If what he or she said is true and remember the big if, then it is reprehensible and he or she should be reported to the appropriate licensing authority.

If you remember, several months ago we had a story that turned out to be a hoax. All I am saying, is tell us the anme and address of this doctor.

First of all...

Having a bill saying that if a child is not implanted, it will be reported as child abuse is NEVER ever going to happen. If it has to do ANYTHING with surgery or MEDICAL intervention, the government is not allowed to intervene. They can STOP you from having a medical procedure due to radical perspectives such as abortion. They CANNOT force anything medically. So, no way in hell, or in the sewers of NYC that the government will have any control over that.

In the past, many years ago, it has been done where the government will get involved with medical procedures, but now it's not (I'm quoting my boyfriend on this, so if it's wrong, please prove it. :P ).

Kudos to the mother for doing that! :-D

I would be weary of "friend to friend" or "my uncle's brother's cousin's sister told me this" type of posts.

But if did indeed happen then yes it is sad and need to be addressed but right now this post is all hearsay.
