Chrysler recall controversy: What's next

Well, you know Rochester NY always dump too much salt on road during winter time. I got several rust though holes already. Your indeed right about 4.0L last longer than V6. The engine seems to lose a bit of power. Still powerful and it runs just fine. I have no idea how long it will last, likely body will fall apart before engine dies. The AC was broken for long time. I thought I would trade so didn't bother fix AC. I should have, since I never thought I would keep my Cherokee that long. LOL I'm curious how long and likely will find out eventually.

Best way to retard rust is to wash the underside of your car in all the nooks and crannies. I allways laugh when i see people just wash the top. Every six months get two cans of fluid film for 16$ and spray everything underneath except around your exhaust. Seams and joints pay special attention to. The cans come with a nosle so you can spray the insides of your frame rails and if you remove a few trim screws you can get the insides of your rocker panels. If it's the first time your doing it get two extra cans for the rails and pannels as its important to get lots in there. Most of the time you can find access to the quarter pannels inside as well.

There are places that will spray the underside for you but be sure to go back in and get the insides as they don't and they are the most important spots.

Oh yea, scrape off any loose undercoating. All it does is hold water. I've been doing this on my jeep for the last 5 years and the mechanics are always amazed when i go to get it inspected. Or get a new car every 5 years. :D

Yea, they are pretty popular around here. We see lots with 250k 300k and more. Rust usually gets um before they die around here. I use fluid film and it helps a lot.
I should do same thing for my Mazda too. It got rust from bottom already.

NY and Chicago are almost same thing for tons salt.

Yup, no more straight 6 due to emission issues. :(

Chrysler should redesign EGR or switch to diesel I6 with DEF to help low emission.

No rust on Sunbelt cars (unless they have unrepaired wreck damage). :)

If Chrysler used old blueprint of XJ and throw in Diesel, I would buy one. No question asked. Fuel tank back of axle like where it is, with Diesel it won't matter. I highly doubt they will do that.

Don't made us dump a lot salt at your driveway. I am freaking hate rust.
Even on the rare days that we have ice or snow on the roads the DOT uses sand only. (Of course, it's a huge mess when the snow or ice melts.)

They came with a 2.1L renault turbo diesel i think some where made in the states but i know there where at least a few privatly imported. They made them over seas until 95 i believe

Im only interested in near brand new or brand new not 20 years old.

Where i live they have started dumping calcium chloride on the roads here before a storm then if it passes us by the roads and cars are white for 3 days. They claim it saves lives, personally i think slowing down and getting off the dern phones saves lives.

2.1L? LOL, I will dropped 5.9 cummins in the Jeep Cherokee. Someone did that before. 5.9 cummins will last almost one million mileage before a overhaul.
