Well, you know Rochester NY always dump too much salt on road during winter time. I got several rust though holes already. Your indeed right about 4.0L last longer than V6. The engine seems to lose a bit of power. Still powerful and it runs just fine. I have no idea how long it will last, likely body will fall apart before engine dies. The AC was broken for long time. I thought I would trade so didn't bother fix AC. I should have, since I never thought I would keep my Cherokee that long. LOL I'm curious how long and likely will find out eventually.
Best way to retard rust is to wash the underside of your car in all the nooks and crannies. I allways laugh when i see people just wash the top. Every six months get two cans of fluid film for 16$ and spray everything underneath except around your exhaust. Seams and joints pay special attention to. The cans come with a nosle so you can spray the insides of your frame rails and if you remove a few trim screws you can get the insides of your rocker panels. If it's the first time your doing it get two extra cans for the rails and pannels as its important to get lots in there. Most of the time you can find access to the quarter pannels inside as well.
There are places that will spray the underside for you but be sure to go back in and get the insides as they don't and they are the most important spots.
