Today while ^Angel^ and I went out to do a little bit of last minute shopping and running errands, we were in another area that we don't frequent as much and saw a big pet store, we decided to check it out and see what they had...well, guess what? I strolled by the section where birds were kept at and of course, seeing the outrageous prices of some of these birds, while I was *shaking my head about*, I stopped by where the parakeets were and was admiring at a couple of them, two of them were perched so-ever closely like any 'loving couple' would also...it's been a long time since I had one (named-Bumper, for obvious reasons, kept bumping into walls and whatnots), anyhow, I had gotten ^Angel's^ attention to check out these two birds and how adorable they look together...she sure was heads-over-heels seeing how lovely these two birds looked together...next thing I know, we both were looking at the cages....
Here's what happened and something to remember and perhaps relay to our grandkids one day--
After getting one of the store clerks to help us out, one of them held an arm-length sized wood pole with a net reaching in to get one of the birds we had our eyes on, while doing that, I kept my eye on one of them while ^Angel^ look after the other one, when the clerk finally got one of them and as he was pulling himself out, a bird flew out...we all kind of chuckled and thought nothing of it. Then we looked in to find the 'other' one that we wanted, it was no where to be seen and I asked the other clerk who was also helping if the bird that flew out was the 'other' one we wanted and she slowly nodded and at that moment, my heart kind of went down a notch, looking up and seeing a huge store and shaking my head in dismay. Then I decided to go look for the other parakeet, once it flew down and clung onto a window netting that was in place...the store clerk went up slowly and quietly...aimed the net at the parakeet and...missed! Then it flew around a little bit and settled on a window ledge, ^Angel^ happened to be nearby but wasn't aware that the parakeet was there as she was looking in a different direction and I ran as quietly as I could and reaching her to show her where the parakeet was, I tried to extend my hand out to the bird, but of course, it flew away again and I watched it go low down one of the aisles and headed in that direction...then I saw the bird again, on the floor and I gasped, seeing that the parakeet was directly in front of swinging metal doors and all I could see a 'mental picture' of a bird getting squashed if these doors were to open and yelled at the clerk to come over where I was and he handed me the net and I quietly and slowly got down and trapped the parakeet in the confines of the net! I sure was relieved and elated...once ^Angel^ found out that the parakeet was caught, she was thrilled and happy...then we went on about getting the things we needed and brought our parakeets to their new home back here.
Btw, go figure, our parakeets' names are: Roadrunner and ^Angel^....
