Hey guys/gals,

Not sure if this question has been answered for the millionth time (knowing my luck, probably) but eh. I am looking for a cheap text + web plan for a GSM only phone.

Background:

Broke-ass college student who will get only broker in the future
Possess a mytouch 3g
Possess t-mobile pay-as-you-go unlimited text - $15/m
Wants unlimited web... on a budget  Hey, I can dream now, can't I?

I've shopped around quite a bit, and found t-mobile's version of unlimited web/text to be lacking (sidekick only, and starts at $40/m), so looking elsewhere.

So far, I've found AT&T TAP plan which comes close, but not quite. Also it seems that it's unlimited internet for non-smartphone? Need more data.

I'm off to do some more research, but if you guys know of any super cheap plans (lets say max budget is $40/m, cheaper the better), well, I'm all ears (pun intentional).

Or better yet, if you guys know of any cheap web-only plan that's like $25 or cheaper or something like that that is usable on mytouch 3g, I'm willing to drop my text plan and switch over.

Yes, I'm a cheapskate.

Thanks.

EDIT:

Virgin mobile has a unlimited everything for $25/m. Too bad I'm locked to their phones. It's doable, but I'll hold on for now.

Tmobile has a smartphone data only for $40/m. Might be doable.

Sprint has unlimited data for $30/m. Still locked to their phones. Blarge.

Well, I use to sprint relay store.

He wants unlocked/non-carrier brand phone to work with cheap plan aka deaf plan.

Only att can accept TAP for any unlocked phones, even Nokia N97.

For Verizon, they don't accept any non-Verizon brand phones unless it is on their database and I believe that Sprint relay store only accept Sprint brand phones get work with $30 per month.

Tight budget + unlock GSM = never happen.

Just wonder, why you want unlock GSM for? Plan to out of USA?

Most people on tight budget and never complain with lock CDMA/GSM.

Sprintrelay.com is better deal than all carrier for plan.

I use Sprint Blackberry Curve. I'm with Evo Dragon as well too. (Sprint Relay Store).

Unlimited Text/Data/Email for 30 dollars except the voice calls. (They remove the voice calls for you unless you want to use the voice calls, That'll be 20 cents per minute). I use the voice calls only for Emergency. That's up to you.

Thanks everyone for answering my question.

And yes, I use my phone in other countries, and must have a unlocked phone for that purpose.

It looks like the sprint one is the better deal all around, but I'll try to hold off for a while, see where the prices land up.

Virgin mobile has the best deal out of all of them ($25/m for unlimited text + internet) but then you're limited to their phone. And they only have blackberries and some samsung phone that's locked down -- a huge turn off.

I guess I'll keep my current unlimited text message plan and use the local wifi until either I find a job or prices come down.

Thanks again!

EDIT:

I would like to start using iprelay and/or HOVRS as my main method of communication to the outside world. Is there an android app for that? Or do I have to browse to their website? How would a HOVRS work from a smartphone?

Virgin is just better deal but bad for rate coverage like our coverage don't have Virgin.

The Sprint is 2rd coverage in USA.

My family and I alway use pre-paid with cheap phone and not worry about steal and lost at Europe.

Don't trust ATT&T and Tmobile!! They trick and confuse you about data plan.

I never member of wireless AT&T before and I never bought any mobile from T-mobile before but just SIM for my unlock nokia GSM. I heard many people complained about AT&T about rip off and T-mobile about poor server and poor coverage.

I have no problem with VZ and Sprint. I noticed GSM is evil and CDMA is friendly in USA. Weird.

deluded- the pay as you go plan, are you locked in for a period of time ? is the web capability a needed feature or what you want? I am assuming that since you are a college student, you already have a laptop with many wifi areas to connect to. So what cant you do on your laptop that helps you on a pager with web access ? probably nothing.

So - either get a sprint plan for 2 years ( can you commit to a 2 yr plan?) or stick with your current 15 buck per month plan and use your laptop.

I used to be a college student and know the feeling. Its hard to get what you want when you see others have those things. After wall you dont want to be stuck with a credit issue when you finish college. :cool2:

This pay as you go plan of mine is not locked -- I am not in any sort of contract what-so-ever.

The web feature is more of a necessity than want, owing to the fact that I need to have access to ip-relay and/or HOVRS on the go. I am a freelancer technician (fixing computers/printers) and most of my assignments require me to call my contractor from the customer location to complete the job -- and most of the time I'm in a location with no internet.

It is true that most of my time spent will be around wifis (school, home), but money is tight, and being denied my pay just because I wasn't at the customer location when I call in to complete the assignment rankles with me.

For now, I have configured AIM TXT and IP RELAY to work with my unlimited text message plan, not sure how well that would go over, but we'll see.

As to the sprint, I might go for it if this AIM TXT proves to be inadequate. Hopefully it'll not come to that.

Thanks everyone! :)
