Over 290 views and no one reply. So i had to say something to get some members to say something like you did. :)

I'm definitely interested in becoming a CDI one day. Is there any workshops closer to Kentucky or neighboring states?

I don't live in MA either. I still am coming down there for it.

Exactly! You have to spend time and money to make a real career. I'm really glad you went out there. My wife has always wanted to be a CDI for the blind but she never followed through with that. She may one day. I will share this thread with her. Thanks for sharing.

jolie.. im not sure about closer to your home state. I m sure one of your friend might know about it or check with RID to see if they have any provide workshop in your area. I have a job already however i d like to learn more for my second job since our hometown syracuse dont have cdi at all. 4 of us who are interested in attending to workshop. One of us have been doing cdi but she is a deaf interpreter so she feels that she needs to be aware as to what cdi is. Sometimes i did as a deaf interpreter at my work and i feel that i need to know more about deaf interpreter rules.

I did attend to the team interpreting workshop this past weekend. The workshop did blow my mind. It was a challenge experience for me to deal with hearing interpreter and the workshop role play. It was worth it for me...

What did you do in there? Curious.

I am currently CDI training, will graduate this coming December 2013 from Road to Deaf Interpreting.

Then, will do RID Exam then State of Mass Screen Test.

Oh there are too many role play, debates between Deaf interpreter vs Hearing interpeter, feedbacks and go on. Role play does help a lot for both of DI and HI to get better POV on each other.

When a CDI interprets between a hearing interpreter and a Deaf person who relies primarily on home signs, the whole concept of that blows my mind. Home signs: signs that people in one household use to communicate with each other, but these aren't signs that necessarily match up with signs from ASL or whatever sign language is used by most Deaf people in your location. So how do you figure out what those signs mean? How do you establish effective communication?

This question has been running around in my head for a while.
