Which Are Smarter, Cats or Dogs?....

Explain your reason why you feel this pet is smarter than the other ?....

**This is suppose to be a fun thread, no needed to add any web sites, just your opinion, that's all it counts :ty: **

Ummm I wouldn't know because I never had a dog and cat together in the same House before.

Right now I only have one smart animal that is my Hamster heh!... :D

I think that dogs are smart. They are capable of being taught to do tricks. All cats do is sit around, lay around, lick themselves all over, and meow. As for dogs, they can defend the house, come when called, follow commands, and many more.

but my cat is very smart, he let me know if the door knock, or keep on meow on me i say what?? so i followed him where he went to door or whatever.. so i checked then someone there.. he is very smart.. he act like dog!

i voted dogs...

Dogs are capable of training for many reasons, disabled people, police, etc.etc...

But... i'll say both cat and dogs are smart.. but dogs are smart on one thing and cat is smart on other thing, ya feel me?

Dogs are good in telling people what they feel.. or what they want.. if u voice or sign to ur dog if they want go outside eat, play or whatever they'll tell u what they want.

dogs are playful for many things.. frisbees, ball, etc.etc.. cats don't do that. they just play withit then forgot about it and just sit and be lazy ass. dogs will get the ball and bring it back to you and u can throw again and again till the dog wants to stop.. its more fun with a dog :-D

It depends on what kind of smart you are talking about.

Cats are smarter, cos they don't let their masters or mistresses control them. Heh heh! They also know their limits... my cats just come running to me if they know I'm very, very insistent calling them. They also learned a few tricks from me. Rochy can drop and roll if I show her a sign, and Leopold can sit if I tell him to with a sign. He also knows to sit if I have a treat for him. I'm trying to teach Muffin to sit with that sign. lol. They also can open doors with their paws... if the doors are slightly ajar. Leo also pats me on the back or side if he is hungry or wants to be outside.

Okay, I'm not a dog person so I'd say cats win out in the end for me :)

Well. I do not have any dog. I only have three rats of mine. My mom have kitty. I believe the rats are smart than dog... May been cats have smart. I am not sure. I have favor going train for them will be smart...

I have a cat who comes when she is called. She also fetches. I know I've said this before in various animal threads, but I'm SORRY, I've never, ever, ever seen a cat behave that way before...LOL!!! She thinks she's a canine...only I don't have to walk her. Oh, and she can perform numerous acrobatic tricks...I'll throw the socks or a rubber band and she'll do a nice little back flip for ya. I've got yet to catch that on camera....LOL.

My dog, on the other hand is as stupid as they come. He's cute, but that's about it. He's got a lotta love to make up for his lack of brains. Ah, he thinks the CAT is his girlfriend. She sets him straight at least three times a day.

LOL...so I guess my vote is cats. They're smarter. ;)

LOL Malfy! I have to agree with you.

Up until a few years ago, we had a cat. And, I have two dogs as well. The cat really didn't get along too well with the dogs, and in one dog in particular.... My dog, Morgan.

Morgan tried REALLY hard to make friends, but he just WOULDN'T GET that Katie ( the cat) wanted him to LEAVE HER ALONE! LOL She was old, bad tempered, and didn't take kindly to having to "train" a young dog. LOL Anyway, Morgan got really used to hearing "Morgan, LEAVE THE CAT ALONE!" And, he also got it reinforced by a paw on the snout more times than he'd like to remember! lol

But, he's a sweet dog ..And, my favorite. :)

I would say that any mixed breed dog would be best as long as you only get one. Most mixed breed dogs are easy to train and are smarter. When you only get one, it's also easier to train that way as well. Here's my NUMBER ONE RULE... NEVER get a dalmation! They are too damn hard to train and are definitely not house dogs! I've got two and they are HELL to deal with!

I gotta say cats cuz they are smarter they can look after themselves and my cat carla wud try to get my attention by jumpin on my laps i was like  cute.. heh

Yep! Here's another question... can a cat guard the house? Can the cat scare away a burgular? Can the cat attack the burgular? Nah!

No not really, but cat sure can catch a mouse as ' the burgular ' :laugh2:

I vote cats. The cats are very smart and their listening is everythings. They can know where they can going. Its a simple. They know what I said, "NO!"

The dogs are half smart and half devil, but they haven't listen what I said, "NO!" They still be stubborn and I work hard with discipline for them. Sometimes, they are stupid. Some dogs can hear to knock the door and say "barking!" Oh dang, I can hear behind my dogs. It's really loud and I can hear it.

You are Correct on that part. When I was sitting for my little nieces they have a dog and everytime someone knocks on the door when they are napping the dog barks and She would kept barking until I open the door by the time I opened the door My nieces would wake up from their nap.. Way to go Doggie!

Pity, pity, pity... Your dogs don’t see you as a top dog.

It does not matter what breed you have. A lot of dogs are not housetrained because they are not taught properly how to go potty outside or they have medical problems OR owners give up too soon with housetraining. Pearl, my Bichon Frise mix, was the most difficult dog to housetrain than my Doberman and Poodle. It took several weeks for her to be completely housebroken. Thank God for Nature’s Miracle.
I agree with you that with one *new* dog you will be able to more effectively bridge that gap between one dog and human much better than you would be able to do if there are new two dogs in the house.

Mongrels are less prone to genetic health problems than purebred dogs. Unfortunately, they share similar problem we have-- discrimination. (sigh)

Cats are smarter, of course!
I must admit I'm a feline fan so....
Samson, my darling cat, knows not to bite, sits on my lap, and others. So I think he's one smart cat though he does not let on. ;)

:thumb: CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS CATS!!!! :thumb:

I believe dogs are more smarter, because dogs can do almost anything than the cats. Some day I will have my own dog... a German Shepherd or Husky/wolf dog. :D

I reckon both are the same...smart in their own ways. ;) My Rosie, a burmese cat -- she knows how to open the flywire door that leads to the front door. :P
She also has found a way to get fresh water by jumping up on the shower rail above the shower while either my husband or myself are in the shower...she knows that we'll fill up her personal bowl and put it up there for her to lap up water, heheh! :giggle:

She also discovered a way in opening the sliding door to our bedroom! Geez...have ended up having to put locks on the doors to prevent her from opening them!
