Hey does anybody know what the hell is going on with the caption in netflix? why r they not puting any captions on the instant screening? its not fair that the normal people gets to watch the movie while we deaf and h&h people can't watch it cuz there is no captions for us to understand the movie. we have an equal rights to have captions on the netfelix screening! i use the instant one alot and its hard for me to read lips when the camra is moving alot! i just wish that they support the cc for the deaf and HOH community. For once in their life it won't hurt them. We just need to get our voice out there and b heard. im tired of fighting people who don't support cc. im having hard time enjoying movies without cc. what you guys think?

Rent a DVD and get CC.

You don't actually have a right to CC on Netflix streamed movies.

I don't even know if you are deaf, as actors don't face front all the time and it isn't possible to lipread a show .

Plus there was another new member a little earlier with the exact same complaint.

yes im deaf and i read lips very well dude. i just don't like it when they don't support us when we are sitting around trying to enjoy a movie that doesn't have caption. its just plain stupid. and when the actors or actress are sometimes on front i catch pretty good but i try to keep up the chit chat and it just makes me sooo mad that we are just being injored. r u deaf Bottesini?

If you don't like it, why go out of your way to watch something that has captioning in a form where it is missing?

That is what is stupid. Just get the DVD and it has captions.

Yes, I am Deaf.

And apparently you are a dude as well, Botts  ;)

I am the same way - get a DVD or watch cable movies ...

:laugh2: I didn't think I would correct that. I didn't want to give the OP too much to take in at once.

I think he should be able to get CC on streamed movies on netflix, he ought to be entitled to them just the same as hearing people are. You're telling him to just get a DVD, I don't think it's fair for him to have to send away to rent DVDs when he could just watch the movies right away on his PC if they were captioned. If he has to have his netflix DVDs sent to his home because of the captioning issues he is not being treated equal as hearing people who get to watch the streamed movies on their computers right away because they can hear and understand the movies. He and the rest of us Deaf people should be treated as equal as hearing people by having captions provided to us on streamed movies. You seem to be OK with the fact that the Deaf people are being denied the right to watch STREAMED MOVIES with CAPTIONS on NETFLIX and that we should just make do with DVDs being sent to our homes or just have to watch the streamed movies with NO CAPTIONS. If hearing people get to watch and understand STREAMED MOVIES then we as Deaf people should have the same rights to the STREAMED movies by being provided captions on them so we can watch and understand the movies, regardless of the fact that they are available on DVDs. We should be able to watch streamed movies on our PCs with captions instead of having to have DVDs sent to our homes which would take a couple of days to get, because we would have equal rights as the hearing people if we can watch streamed movies with captions. Come on! I, too, would like to watch streamed netflix movies online immediately instead of having to wait for a couple of days for the movies to arrive at my home.

This isn't stupid. This is an important issue for us Deaf people. It IS important to ME, at least, as well as the OP.

No, my point was it is not a right . I am sure it would be nice to have, but it is not a right.

I am not that interested in watching movies as I read more that watch movies. It just seemed a little weird for a new person to come in an urge everyone to a hostile action.

If someone wanted to wage a polite campaign, it would be a different matter.

Plus when a new poster comes on asking people to jump on some cause, I usually wonder if they have some ulterior motive. In other words I wonder if they have some vested interest.

I am not against captioning on streamed movies.

I don't advocate hostile action but I do advocate action to push for netflix to caption their streamed movies.

Maybe he's just new to AD and was just looking for a Deaf-related forum and found this one so he could talk about this issue. He's entitled to that much.

I am not against captioning on streamed movies.

Yeah, but you're not supportive of us having the right to watch Netflix's streamed movies WITH captions.

.

Yeah, but you're not supportive of us having the right to watch Netflix's streamed movies WITH captions.

If you want it to be a right you are going to need to make it a law, and that does not mean lobbying Netflix.

That needs to go through the government.

I agree. The OP probably did not know or realize this. When I said we should be pushing Netflix I don't mean lobbying but we should be (all of us Deafies) asking Netflix for it, they should be getting a very high demand of CC'd streamed videos from us, if they got a very high demand of CC'd streamed movies from us they might feel the pressure to CC them and they might do that. High demand does produce results. I mean, I have read about other things where there is a demand for equal access of some kind and I have seen it produce good results. That can happen here too.

But, yes, if we want to make it a law we should go through the government.

I am old and cynical, but I feel there are not enough of us as a percentage of their consumers, to make them take us seriously.

Writing to your congressman would probably help more.

I grew up before CC, so to me what we have now is pretty fantastic.

And I also learned growing up, that protesting anything can get you hurt.

There are more rights for people now under the ADA, so my leftover attitude of fear of making waves is kind of outmoded.

We only have one captioned movie theater in my town. Requiring all theaters to have every movie with a showing in OC would be more a cause I would like to get behind.

my vote says yes!!

im raise deaf when i was baby at 10 month old but i have rightsful for CC to watch movie or tv if no CC for movies i will setups subtitle for CC as english its so simples!!

my family never know how to setup CC but i can doit!! my parents knew it.

Yes, I definitely want captions on Netflix! It is not a "right" but it would be nice if they allowed it. Or maybe some kind of account where we don't get to have streaming movies, but it costs less. (After all, why pay for something you cannot use?)

The real answer, though, is to have captions put in. I read somewhere about it being a technical issue, that they can't put it into the digital programming, but I don't see why it would be hard...you can download a movie and then apply the SRT file to it. They just need to incorporate an SRT processor into their player somehow.

I totally agree with Lucia Disturbed. we need to fight for whats right and we should all have equal rights as everyone else. We both hate to wait for movies to come to our house while there is instant screening that normal people use alot to see the movie right away because they don't have a problem with hearing the movie...but we do. Not alot of movies have CC. there are alot of movies i know that don't provide CC at all. This is another reason why we should fight for CC on screening. we don't have alot of choices like the hearing people do, what we have is limited. we either watch the damn movie with CC or without CC or not watch the movie at all becuase of CC. This what bugs me the most. I hate having to have to choose based on what we have or don't have.
We have to figure out a way to get through a goverment or the head of neflix or something to get our rights to have cc anywhere and on sceening. We have the right to fight or do something that makes us feel discrimiated or left out. Just becuase i'm new here mr. bottesini, doesn't mean i am trying to get in a hostle action im just simply trying to whats right for us. our kind need something more to satify our needs. im just trying to point out what the problem and try to solve it with any means neccesary. just to let you know dude, im one hell of a fighter. :)

I know you can put CC on tv and movies with subtiltes sara1981, but there are some tv and movies that won't allow you to do that. I have been there. some good shows or movies on tv won't support CC even if you try to put subtiltes on. But thats why im here to figure out what the problem is and try to prevent this from happing. We should all have subtiltes/CC anywhere and anytime on any channel. Old movies or tv from like the year 91 or something, subtiltes/CC won't work on them. Trust me, i tried. But if you figure it out Sara1981 than good for you, maybe you can help us. :)

what do you guys think? i need more ideas...How do we get attention to our cause about CC on instant screening? Lucia Disturbed..got any? anybody else? Let me know cuz this is driving me insane! Thanks for talking about this with me. i think im getting better but not there yet. So...come on what's on ur minds. lol :)

I won't rent a movie unless it has CC on it. My TV is set up for Closed captioning. I wouldnt have it any other way. I stopped netflix because they weren't cc. My personal opinion is that every movie and tv show should be CC'd. What ticks me off is when sometimes Im watching TV and the CC is garbled and only a few correct letters appear. I never understood why that happens. Worse - I don't know who to complain to!

I totally hate it when DVDs don't provide subtitles or Captions.... it really irks me. That's why I don't go to Movie Theaters often and I only rent DVD's that only have Closed Caption or subtitles.

It gets frustrating when my bro rents foreign movies that don't have subtitles. Most of them had good storylines and we were put off by not being able to understand some/most of the dialogue in the movies. I don't go to theaters cause they charge too much per person and rarely offer CC in the films that I want to watch. So I just wait for the DVDs to come out. Usually by then I forget about the movie, therefore the reason why I don't watch a lot.
