They should, and it has to be someone who cannot be influenced by the Prime Minister.

Conservatives' tactics are backfiring. They are obviously worried about losing to the NDP if they had to warn the voters about the gas prices, which is nonsense.

To be honest, I don't think that the Conservatives believe the NDP poses a threat. The Conservatives' attacks on the NDP have been kept at a minimum. The new NDP voters = old Bloc, Liberal voters who have switched. In ridings that are currently Liberal, the vote will now be divided between the Liberals and NDP. Let's say 20,000 votes went to the Liberals in the last election. Using my theory, the Liberals will now receive 10,000 votes and the NDP will receive 10,000 votes. The Conservatives which, in my imaginary riding, received 17,000 votes in the last election, manage to maintain the same number of votes. The Conservatives WIN in this riding simply because an overwhelming number of Liberals decided to vote for the New Democrats.

Who knows what could happen tomorrow night.
 
Actually, they do view the NDP as a genuine threat. Otherwise, they wouldn't be saying it. I've followed the news long enough to know when Harper is feeling threatened.

Although, it's difficult to tell who will win because this isn't like the US election. We don't actually vote for the Prime Minister, but the local representatives. The ridings can be incredibly unpredictable, or very predictable at the same time. Canadian politics are odd though.

Hmm.. someone could be a member of the Green Party or a member of the Tea Party. There are other parties as well like the US Communist party or the Constitution Party.
Most independents seem to be right leaning libertians from what I see.

Notice how the Conservatives went out of their way before the election to attack Ignatieff and the Liberals. This is because they posed a genuine threat to the Conservatives, and they knew it. The Conservatives have not yet initiated a full out attack on the NDP. I'm not sure that they will. Who knows, the polls could be wrong and the Liberals could still be the official opposition. I know for a fact that Harper does not like to read or believe in the polls. They aren't scared yet.

Like Harper, I don't put much stock in the polls myself. Especially when it comes to Canadian politics. It's practically impossible to accurately predict how people will vote because we do not vote for the Prime Minister.

I don't know if you have been following the news, but they already launched a full-scale attack on the NDP. It has been going on for a while.

I was aware of their attacks against the NDP. I also know that it's not to the extent of their previous attacks against the Liberals.

Oh yeah, I should also mention that the corporate tax rate here is one of the lowest tax rates in the world. However, it does not benefit the small business owners and the taxpayers, only the corporations. Yet the Conservative party want to lower it again, why screw the small business owners over and over? It's a real shame.

The truth is, there are not many viable options out there and I don't believe that a majority government of any party would be in the best interests for Canada at the moment. Not with all the mud-slinging they are doing, and I do not care for the Liberal leader Iggy, he's a big phony just like Dion was.

John Scherer, the video professor... er... I meant Jack Layton, well, he's an interesting man. Although there are many things I do not really agree with regarding his party's platform. I'm even going to get started on the Green party.

I just wish we had better options.

I feel the same about our options in USA! If we had to vote today there is not one person I would want to pick!

Yup, that's correct and I'm socialist so Democratic Party isn't socialist so enough to me but they are from centrist to slightly left, however there are very few democrats are true socialist (not Obama).

I'm one as well and many socialists are not happy with Obama cuz he isn't one despite claims from the right.

The election has been so intense! History has been made. Crazy stuff! Very exciting. :)
 
The Conservatives won a majority government. What's historic is the NDP's gain! They are Canada's official opposition. This has never happened! Also, the Liberals have faced their biggest loss ever; Michael Ignatieff isn't even winning in his own riding. The Bloc's leader also lost his own riding. This has been an intense election! Very exciting. I'm glad it was my first. :)

Oh, and as of right now the Green Party has a seat in May's Saanich riding. Also historic! We'll see if she keeps it.

If she only hold out in the debate on T.V. but the broadcasting company turned her down. No wonder she did not have a chance to express her feeling about her topic and debate with the four men candidates. That is discrimination on their parts including the broadcasting company. :mad:

Yup, I'm worried about how Conservatives treat GLBT people in Canada and hopefully they won't take marriage away.

However, I see Conservative as less evil than Republican Party.

Elizabeth May's seat has been confirmed. She will be able to debate in the next election.
