Why no, I have never learned to read. My deafness has been a huge handicap in that area of life.

And as for text messages, as I am unable to read, I could never decipher the directions needed to learn to successfully operate a smartphone...

....remembering the time when my friend introduced me to someone that was hearing, and my friend said..."this is rockin'...and she's deaf"...He promptly took out a pen and had a pad in his pocket and write...."Can You Read"?....So I verbally answered..."NO!"...

Yes JMH this is a serious post. This was a question asked in my class as stated. I'm just looking for responses.

Thanks

You either misunderstood the teacher or you need to find another class/teacher.
BTW, how do you expect people who cannot read or text to answer your written question?

I have learning disabilities too if you read that about me.

How did I end up in this thread??? What am I typing????
I have no idea what I'm doing... somebody help me out here. :run:

(Did you really think if we're deaf here, and replying to your questions, we can't send and read text messages?)

I can't read text messages, but I can read forums like this one just fine.

Since it’s serious post, then yes, we do communicate via text message. We also communicate through cellular phone camera and email.

[sigh] Yeah, I know. It’s unfortunately situation that they jumped on you with those comments. You see why I asked if it’s serious post or not - to avoid any misunderstanding. The original post does seem flatly rude, but I don’t think it was his/her intention. Only if you changes from “can you read text messages and reply” to “use text messages” would have avoided any rude comments from them.

How old are you? What is an SLP class?

Your question is a little confusing because it's such a long run-on sentence with garbled word use.

I would think deaf people would prefer ASL. Lately, when I sell bikes, instead of paper and pencil, customer and I would negotiate via texts. I think that the OP was asking if deaf people and other people text back and forth, ya know in place of ASL.

That makes sense.

Too bad they wrote "deaf vs hearing", meaning versus.
