Can someone help me identify these two signs?

I'm trying to find out what these two signs mean. Could someone here please help? Thanks in advance!

Need to see them in motion otherwise, I can only guess. Then, others will guess and could be different from mine confusing u even more. Need to have a video player for this pic.
 
Good response, Shel. People ask what part of speech a word is, and I always tell them I have to see it in a sentence; otherwise I have to mindread.
 
There's no context or movement so . . . :dunno:

The guy in the picture might be doing the sign for ARGUE but that's just a wild guess.

How do we know they are even "signing"?
 
Right, Reba. I believe they're in front of screen projection of a baseball diamond, so it could be base-runner coach signals.

Pulling on an earlobe in Charades means "sounds like" or "rhymes with."

Could be the guy is asking, "Do I need a shave?" Just kidding.
 
Maybe she is asking, "Has anyone seen my earing, I've lost one?"
And he is say, "I've got it hidden in my mouth because it was the ugliest
thing I've ever seen in my life!":giggle:

Or "success", or "happen", or the beginning of "making a paralel", or beginning to form "parenthesis", etc, etc....

Yeah re: if they're even signing; the girl looks like she's got an itch or is going to do a Carol Burnett good night to Mommy! Lol!!

Yeah, without seeing the direction of movement, it's hard to tell.

I agree; it looks more like a "signal" than a "sign". Or like Chase posted, playing charades.

p.s.
Hubby says they look like baseball signals.
 
I don't think they are signing in ASL. I think they are doing the Baseball gestures. Or may be in some kind of weird contest to follow the coaches gestures. because their eyes are fixated on something, like they are trying to concentrate on what they are doing.
 
As far as I know.. that guy signed like Succeed... that girl pulled her eat.. it is like a secret code for 420 aka weeds....
 
The girl could be signing "birthday". I have seen the "ear-pull" meaning "happy birthday" as a regional sign in CA.
In Buffalo we use dominant hand, A handshape and brush up from the heart two times (sort of like the sign for Canada, but the movement is different).
 
We haven't heard back from "Natty" so I guess we'll never know. Apparently Natty's just trying to solve a puzzle, and isn't really interested in sign language.

Natty, glad you solved your puzzle. It's quite impressive that you returned with explanation and thanks. Thoughtfulness is refreshing. I'm a James Fenimore Cooper fan, too. Most know Natty by his Mohican name, Hawkeye.
 
Thanks, Chase. James Fenimore Cooper is great. When I was little my grandfather used to call me Natty Bumppo (my real name is Nathaniel), and it's made a good nickname since.

Edit: If anyone here is interested in seeing the actual puzzle itself, you can do so here. It was a puzzle in MIT's annual Mystery Hunt, and while I don't feel that it was one of the best puzzles, I still think it had an interesting concept.

yes you are correct. It is birthday on lady sign. Man sign as birthday.
 
The picture is "sounds like" (woman), "face" (man), and the answer is Base (hence why they're near a baseball field)

If you go to that link....third picture down....They are ACTUALLY using the Alphabet in sign. :)

See if you can figure that out! LOL!
 
She's most likely signing deaf or home, something like that. Don't know what he is signing. Need movement. btw, I disagree with those who say she is signing birthday, birthday is on the chin not up by the ear or it can be birth + day, the way i like to sign it. I know my language.
