Calling VP 200 from VPAD+

Try calling those same VP200 with ip address as a test.

I think 10 digit numbering is not perfect yet and I have similar issue as well too. I can't call or recieve "SOME" of the VP200 users with my VPAD.

Even one of the friend sometime I get a black screen VP200 to VP200 too so it happens off and on.

But ip address should work every time however I know 10 digit is easier to use but it still not perfect yet between different VRS providers.

.

True. 10-digit numbering is some on an off to work between different VRS providers. You will wait to listen about prefect 10-digit numbering network after November 12 or earlier.

Yes, I did try using the IP addresses and still got the same message.

I am asking you again: Are there different ways the VP200 router can be set up to accept calls from different models of videophones? From what I read in other threads in this forum, it seems that improper setting of port forwarding is the biggest cause of problems with receiving calls. Of course, not being an expert, I may be wrong.

Has this been set up by an sorenson Techican installer?

Are you talkin about yo making a call and would not working or something question else? Can you give us a simple so we can understand what you trying to saying!

Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have searched all threads for the answer to my question. Looks like nobody has mentioned this problem, so here goes.

I have a Viable VPAD+ and a Linksys router model WRT54GL. I am able to make videophone calls to other people who have VP 200 by using their 10-digit numbers, and they all can call me, but there are a few whom I have been unable to call. Each time I tried to call one of those few people, a popup window would appear saying "calling...", lasting about 15 seconds, and then the message "Recipient does not exist" would appear. This happened even when one of those people called me and after talking, we both hung up and I called that person back right away. Is the problem at my end or the other person's end? That person said that she has no problem getting calls from other VP 200 users.

Thanks for any advice.

From what I understand now. His VPAD+ with 10 digit number was unable to connect to one of these VP200's (one of his friend's) which was unable to connect at all, brings back with an error - "Recipient does not exist"

But does the person with VP 200 have their own 10 digit number?

That's what i thinkin too! Lolz

I don't have the VP200! I have only a VPAD+. So, whether the other person's VP200 was set up by Sorenson, I assume so because this person has her VP200 for several years now and got it for free from Sorenson.

One last thing

Some router brand you have to add a port number to application firewall to open it up.

Yes port forwarding or VP using a port that a router should automatically open the port while it in use but sometime it just doesn't open and you would get a black screen.

Remember it could be other end that the port is not opening up when it in use.

I have that issue with my Dlink DIR-655 so I have to add ports to my application firewall to keep them open all the time.

LilCueballRulez and JClarke,

You need to read my first post carefully. I said "by using their 10-digit numbers"! I also tried using their IP addresses, if I have them, and still got that message.

Oh okay, right now i understand!! AGAIN, You need to read careful what Chevy and Tech sayin, they sayin 10 digits are not perfect yet! Jux take up to Nov... Be patience

It same thing happen to me, it depend on what your modem came with router such like 2Wire, the solution that need remove security layer on one part then uncheck the gateway on VPAD setting. It will work.

I wonder have you tried using friend's VP200's (866-xxx-xxxx) number instead of friend's local number. I tried that when I was in hotel. My laptop was connected to its Wifi network and hooked up Logitech Webcam on top of my lappy. I called my friend's local number (913-xxx-xxxx) and it didn't work, ending up connecting to VRS service. I contacted my friend through Blackberry BIM and asked her for (866) number from her vp. She gave it to me and I called and it went through just fine.

So just experiement it on your V-Pad and rest of wireless VP phones

Myself have VPAD+ and I can use Sorenson with two number, the local number or the toll free number. I can able use Purple or OJO. It works all the way those numbers.

Is that when you are at hotel or any wifi hotspot which is several states away and you use your friend's local vp number?

I didn't have problem when I use P3 Purple software calling my friend locally using their local vp number, not from another State.

I assume you have a VP200 like my friend. I don't know which Dlink router she has. What additional port numbers did you add to your application firewall? So I might pass on the info to my friend when a Sorenson technician visits her.

Yes, I have tried my friend's 866 number and still gotten the same error message.

You have given me an idea for testing if the problem is at my end or my friend's end. I am going to take my VPAD to a place that has a free wifi hot spot and try calling my friend from there. If I am able to get through to her there, then the problem is at my end. If not, then the problem is at her end.

I have both Vpad and VP200 on the same router.

What I am saying that routers when they detect a port in use that it should also open the firewall port for that port in use.

But I keep having issue and black screen to me that mean the firewall is blocking the port or the port is not being sent to the right ip.

I know my port forwarding is correct so it narrow down to my firewall on dlink.

In Dlink there is something called "Application Rule" It look like a port forwarding menu but lack ip addressing box.

In Application Rule you put in "Trigger" port then you put in "Firewall port" so example you can put in port 1220 as a trigger then put in firewall like 1200-1300 and when the rule detect that port trigger or in use then it will open the firewall of that port range 1200-1300.

Reason I did that is because when I am using VP200 or VPad I notice in my dlink log that the other ports was being blocked by dlink.

So it seem to me dlink is not perfect and blocking legit ports during VP calls and I add application rules not to block the ports when it is in use.

Example in my dlink I added

Name-VP200A
Trigger-15328-15348
Firewall-15328-15348

Example - VP200 open a port 15328 then router will open firewall 15328 but keep 15329 to 15348 closed/blocked so I add this rule and now if VP200 open a port 15328 and dlink will force all ports 15328 to 15348 to open and not blocked.
