Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have searched all threads for the answer to my question. Looks like nobody has mentioned this problem, so here goes.

I have a Viable VPAD+ and a Linksys router model WRT54GL. I am able to make videophone calls to other people who have VP 200 by using their 10-digit numbers, and they all can call me, but there are a few whom I have been unable to call. Each time I tried to call one of those few people, a popup window would appear saying "calling...", lasting about 15 seconds, and then the message "Recipient does not exist" would appear. This happened even when one of those people called me and after talking, we both hung up and I called that person back right away. Is the problem at my end or the other person's end? That person said that she has no problem getting calls from other VP 200 users.

Thanks for any advice.

On your VPAD+ make sure you have the latest firmware

then

Try this to see if it help ..

Settings -> Network -> Ports -> Default -> OK

Then VPAD+ will reboot itself

Tried what you suggested. All it did was changing the end of the port range from 42014 to 42006. Tried to make the VP call to that person whom I have a problem calling and got the same result. Changed the port number back to 42014.

I forgot to mention that I called Viable tech support about this, and she said that it was probably due to the other party either turning off their VP 200 or blocking incoming calls and VPAD+ does not recognize their status. I doubt this is the sole reason because I got the same message when I tried to call back the other party right after finished talking to her, after I told her that I would do so.

A friend had the same issue that you did and he fiddled around with his VPAD+ trying to get it to work thinking it was on his end and he said when he hit the default port it changed from 14 to 06 and it started working for him again.

So that why I suggest to try it to see if it help any because it did for him.

But isn't 42006 within the range of 42000-42014? I am no expert on networks, so I don't understand how reducing the range of ports for VPAD+ from 42000-42014 to 42000-42006 would make any difference. Since I have no problems calling some VP200 users, why would changing the port range to default allow me to call those that I am currently unable to call? It seems to me that the way those users' VP200 is set up is somehow different from those of other users.

Do you have another different videophone devices?

Ok you go to the VPAD+ and change the first port number above the two port numbers to 1720 and then put the 1720 replica of the other one into the router as well and reboot and give this a try.

The first part I can understand, but not sure what you meant by the second part. Where in the router setup do I put 1720?

It is safer to call Viable Support than ask around here. Don't you think so?

Put the 1720 in the port forwarding set up in your router and assign the VPAd at 192.168.0.125 (if the private IP is at 192.168.x.xx)

should be 192.168.0.198 for VPAD not 192.168.0.125

I thought about your and JClarke's suggestions and wondered if they make sense in my situation. You need to re-read my first post. As I mentioned there, my problem isn't calling all VP200 users; it is calling SOME of the VP200 users. It was when I tried to call these users that I got the "Receipent does not exist" message. This makes me think that the problem is more at these users' end than my end. Since you all seem to be familiar with VP200 and experts at router setups, can you tell me if there are different ways VP200 could prevent a VPAD caller from getting through? The Viable tech support did say that if the VP200 is set to not accepting calls, I would get that message. Is this true?

Try calling those same VP200 with ip address as a test.

I think 10 digit numbering is not perfect yet and I have similar issue as well too. I can't call or recieve "SOME" of the VP200 users with my VPAD.

Even one of the friend sometime I get a black screen VP200 to VP200 too so it happens off and on.

But ip address should work every time however I know 10 digit is easier to use but it still not perfect yet between different VRS providers.
