Hi AD'ers. I'm wondering about your employer's rules for calling in sick. My work requires a doctor written note no matter what it is. I've been working 2 days being sick and yesterday I skipped some of the duties because I wasn't feeling that well. I am forced to work tonite being sick once again. I haven't missed my work for more than a year due to sickness. Pretty cruel, isn't it. I'd guess. Why do they expect me to drive to a doctor and get a note and prove them that I'm sick? I think it's pretty silly. I guess the employers don't trust no one anymore due to lot of them lying to the employers that they called in sick.

it is the same as school.. Must have dr note that the kid is sick or they will not give no exucse for not attending school.

if kid miss too much days. parents will be arrested and go to jail. too strict today.

My company also requires written notes from doctors or hospitals. However, I have never called out sick at my job, because I work 7 days in a row, then off for 7 days in a row, then so on. I was sick once, and they allowed me to go home like an hour early. Maybe if you talk with your boss, maybe you can work out a way to compromise something. Like for example, if you finished all of your duties, and are doing nothing, maybe your boss can let you go home earlier?

Not all schools do that. Many schools want to hear from parent's approval from their voice. If the sickness is serious, they go to doctor. I am sorry I don't believe they arrest parents if they miss school, the kids will stay in the same grade as a punishment or something like that.
It's probably the law in your state.

they do that here in school now.. cuz too many kids are missing the days.. they tried to arrest my mom cuz my niece missed too many school days few years ago. my mom told them look at her.. she is 17. u cant arrest me . they look at her birthdate and said ok. my mom is excused.

last year TJ missed 15 school days.. require to call in parent and teacher conference on why tj was missed from school? i showed them papers on drs note and why he got sick.. they said ok.. excuse for that.. yet i did got them note .. they just want to make sure it is same story.. not fabricate story.. u know? like i said school today are STRICT. i am sure my sons school is not the only one. where my niece went to in different school system is the same way.. i dont know about Washington state.. but here in ARkansas very strict now.. sigh..

I work 5 days a week and am off on the weekends. There's no supervisor or boss on site to keep eye on me on the job. I'm a janitor and I have to do all the duties that Port of Seattle required us to do. The supervisor usually come on site to check the work quality and stuff like that. I don't see the supervisor often, tho.

I agree with you about bein' silly to have a written note from a doctor, if they require you to do so. But, if you want to keep your job - then, it would be a wise to get a written note from a doctor to prove that you are really sick....then, maybe your boss can let you go home to prevent spreadin' your sick to others at worksite. :dunno:

My bf still have to get a written note from his doctor, if he gets sick... just to avoid losin' his points.

Hope you get well sooner !

my bf has some sickness days plus points

Same as my son's school, must have doctor.. if its too much asbence. But since hes in preschool, not need to bring doctor. I hope all high schools required to have dr notes. Cuz of their numberous of skipping school. Some state if kids skipped more than 14 days of a year. The parents had to request to go court. Yikesss.. I am not sure about my state tho

Well, my employment is working with food and meats, I have a food handle permit which I am required to take a health exam every two years, The county health department had informed us all that if we were sick with the flu we cannot even work because coughing, sneezing etc can cause harmful bacteria in food. Employer must understand, or else they can get sued by customers if they get sick from eating the food that were served to them.

I can understand that lot of teenagers tend to skip schools in high school so they need more proof that they're not coming to school. I hate that lot of states have different laws instead of same laws in the whole US. It's like the states are their own govt. It can be confusing for many migrators.

That's good common sense for employers who work with food. You wouldn't want the food getting infected by the sneezing and all that. They should not show up at work AT all if they happen to be sick.

yea. its quite of work for parents to take kids to doctor, due to have parents off from work. That harm every parent's work from absences

It's seems ridiculous about job policies since illness required excuse from doctor but that stupid because some people can control their illness at home without visit doctor, and just order meds at drug store and rest at home, that must be excuse for job without doctor's excuse. I like job policies at Tower Records but if anyone don't go to work due sick then wouldn't count with hours to salaries but it does happen to most job, and all job companies have different policies.

My old job I had that had only 12-15 hours a week worth of work allowed me to call in sick over the phone and I was actually sick. Too bad it's only 12-15 hours a week job. That's right, job policies varies and there's not much we can do.

I think it makes sense if you want to have paid time off (PTO) for the time missed whilst sick, then I can understand the company wanting a proof of your illness before pocketing money over to you for missed hours.
