California may ban conventional lightbulbs by 2012

I have Fluorescent light.. in the basement.. We are dislike use those.. Rare use it.. We will plan revocation this home within next year.. hopefully to see if our budget permit!

I believe New Jersey recently had talked about doing what California is wanting to do.

I'm thinking that if there was a ban on it, I believe they would solely target banning companies from making them.

If the production of them stopped, the lightbulbs already made would burn out shortly after. Once they ran out, they would have to buy a idfferent kind.

BAD BAD NEWS!!!

Lots of people are sensitive to fluorescent lights. I can see the flicker (and last time I was around them I could hear them).

Was about to say that. There's better means than fluorescent or normal light blubs.

I don't really think CA or any state could do that. But then again anything is possible with today's world. Although I can understand the reason's why. But going as far as banning them, I find just a little ridiculous..

Yea, I agree. See what happens.

LED bulbs would be much more ideal and they use far less energy in comparison to both fluorescent and incandescent bulbs.

Plus they last much, much longer.

OLED's rule!

Doesn't OLED use salmon DNA?

I remember reading that they use salmon DNA. There's a problem with that, if everybody was to use it... then that would mean they may harvest much, much more salmons just to manufacture OLED bulbs.

Not a good idea.

The problem is... the population is growing meaning more people are using the power grid.

Therefore, more blackouts.

There need to be a solution now before it get worse. People need to realize that the less power they consume, the less strain it will put onto the power grid.

Yes they use salmon sperm DNA a waste product of the salmon fishing industry.

With the new energy saving light bulbs, my monthly electric bill went down from about 90 bucks to 35 bucks a month so I'm really happy it.

Sounds like a good idea to save electricity cuz we have largest population in the state compared to other states in USA. But I agree that it would be impossible to enforce that law. Only way to completely ban them is to forbid all stores from selling them and forbid factories to send them to the stores.

Ive been using Compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) for years cuz it saves alot of $$ on bills. :)

What about LED bulbs? From what I know, they're much less power-consuming than the fluorescent lights and last longer too.
Yep! They're now using those for brake lights on cars and traffic lights as well. Uses a lot less electricity. :)

Uh oh...

Looks like they're gonna have to end the 112-year streak of the longest living light bulb in California! :(

I think ban conventional lightbulbs do not solve anything.

My opinion:

conventional lightbulbs should be sell expensive then it will make people to buy energy savings-light bulb for reasonable prices more and more...

I add energy savings-light bulb almost all in my household to save for pay electricity tax in utility bill.

Yes, I think if the bulb manufacturers offered a better variety of bulbs, at cheaper cost, then the consumer would choose to use the fluorescents voluntarily. I don't think we need a law to force it.

This reminds me of the law that forces Americans to use the low flush water toilets. What a disaster! The toilets use less water for each flush but sometimes we have to flush more times, so we really waste more water (and time)! It's a real pain in the rear (can I say that?).

Well I plan to do home automating in the future as I'd like to use dimmable lights... :(

I just read a little on it, it seems decent but still alot of bugs they need to work on. Pretty cool otherwise. There's so many better things we can do to improve our lives and discrease the consuption of natural resources yet nobodys really buying into it, but in 10 years from now cars will run on pure ethanol (I think) and power grids will content of solar panels (if the government shells out the land. A couple miles of land with solar panels could power america as whole, but it also can put us at risk to terrorist threat)

Then you got those problems in Japan which will soon be in america in a couple hundred years, lack of space to build and make homes because of the increasing numbers. So they're thinkin about building a super tower thing.. There's so much risk with the innovative designs of 'future improvements' which can also give such a great benefit, but in this day and age it's hard to take these sort of risks with how the economy is and such. If people took more risks and weren't so greedy, life would possiblity be way better, but would you sign over a deed that states you own land with the promise of living in whatever they build - it wouldn't happen for a couple years. er.. straying off topic now.
