Buzzing in ear

My room-mate's hearing test came back saying she has mild degenerative hearing loss and she is looking into hearing aids. However in the mean time she is having issues with a buzzing sound in her left ear, which scored lower on all sound recognition. In February she had an ear infection and lost all hearing in the easr for about 3 months until it finally cleared up and ever since then has been hearing a low mechanical buzzing sound on and off all day in that one ear. Has anyone had a buzzing? Ive had ringing and drumming, but never buzzing...

What you have described is my exact condition. The buzzing is called tinnitis. It can literally drive you nuts.

Tell your friend to take zinc, it helps, and to avoid salt.

I have buzzing, ringing and popping 24/7.
 
my tinnitus varies between a higher pitched electrical sound and a lower pitched 'fuzzy radio' sound.

What you just described sounds alot like Tinnitus. It's a condition that has mystified DR's over the years! There is no cure for it at this time. It can be caused due to damage within the ear. Mine used to be real loud ( ringing and bells) 24/7 for the past 10 years everyday. Since my CI activation the CI has drown out my tinnitus ten-fold Now Its barely there in the background I hardly ever notice it now!. Good luck to her. It can take quite sometime to get used to having this condition.
 
it's got to be tinnitus. If I don't have my HA on, the tinnitus is there. Ringing, buzzing, sirens, those random tones you hear during a hearing test, etc.
