Where can I buy a FM system online for my house? I want to have another system at home in case the one I use in school is lost and/or damaged.

Buy a good one!

I know the Phonak MicroLink has clearly worked wonders for me!!

Try it!!

I have a 216 MHz Comtek FM system and love it. Prior to this, I had a 72 MHz Comtek which worked great for the past 11 years until the receiver finally stopped working. If you'd like more information on the 216 MHz Comtek FM system, visit:

COMTEK Communications Technology, Inc. / AT-216

I use a COMTEK at school! Maybe, I will place a FM system on my Christmas list for my parents.

SJC Sue, maybe a better back up idear would be one of those pocket talker things. Besdies, if an FM device is lost or broken, the SCHOOL has to replace it. You shouldn't have to feel the need for a backup one.

DD, why do you keep spelling "idea" as "idear"...? :eek3:

I got FM system in 1990 or so and it was free due under Marines, that where my father was here and retired in 1992. I remember that some mainstream school offers FM system with no charge but cannot bring to home. Just ask audiologist and discuss with them about FM system but some VR can cover it.

Good Idea! That's how I got mine! :giggle:

Anyway, I didn't get mine on Christmas, got it on Diwali, the festival of lights, which is the Hindu's equivalence of Christmas!

All the luck!!

Just b/c..........around here people pronounce idea as idear....guess they found an ah that they dropped from the sentance "I pahked da cah in Havahd Yahd", and tacked it on.......

You're from around Boston? I used to know a co-worker who had such a thick accent that I got good at copying her accent. She'd say things like "I pahked the cah in the pahking lot.." I kept seeing packers in a packing lot for some reason.

*laughs* Yes indeedy I am. I probly have one of the weirdest accents out there. I don't have a wicked thick accent,(although it was intensified when I lived at a Mass state college. I have friends with VERY "Bwoston accents" but I do not say my ahs. LOL. I also have a VERY deaf voice.

I have a Comtek, but I never use it. I do not like the telecoil setting. I always hear electrical interferences when I use the telecoil setting on my hearing aid (I have a neckloop with my FM).

I also have a Phonak MicroLink Handymic and receiver.... But I only use this system to listen to music. I tried to use it in school and it just never really worked for me. The signal wasn't strong enough. I was going to get the Campus S FM transmitter to use for college, but I have once again dropped out of college so Vocational Rehab. canceled the order.

cdmeggars,

Have you ever tried using a direct audio input (DAI) cord (also called a "shoe" or "boot") with your HA and Comtek FM system?

When I wore BTE HAs, I also didn't like the static, buzzing, hissing and drifting of sound I experienced when using a neckloop. The direct audio input cord provided a strong, clear signal that sounded 100 times better than a neckloop.

The same as user Hear Again. I use DAI. In school they had a Phonc Ear System. Though Ontario Assistive Devices (They paid part of cost) I purchased one when I finished school of the same model - I figured that what they use in schools had to be sturdy ! It still works great, I got it in 1989! Bonus I did not have to buy cord or DAI shoe to plug into hearing aid. BTW to use DAI you have to specify you want this when buying your hearing aids - some models you can add later.

I have the phonak edulink for school and it works pretty well except when it gets really really noisy then i just give up lol..but that doesnt happen much. But the edulink comes with the receivers that go in ur ear rather than attaching to an h.a. or ci ...i dont have an ha..my doctors dont think i dont need one even though im still younger and i have trouble hearing in class, on the phone, in malls, stores etc..but ya..FM system does help alot:)

Do you know the degree of your hearing loss (mild, moderate, severe, profound)? I know of some cases where people with mild hearing loss have been fitted with hearing aids. By "doctor" do you mean an ENT or audiologist? If by "doctor" you mean a physician, I would set up an appointment to be seen by an audiologist. That way, you can be given a comprehensive hearing test and (hopefully) receive the hearing aids that would help make your life easier. :)
