Buying aids

I have an appointment with the Hearing Center on Saturday. This is my first look into actually buying aids using care credit and to my knowledge only place in my are that takes payments. Anyway, What are some things I should as about? to make sure I get an aid I will like and can use?:hmm:

Know what you want in a hearing aid. Make a list of all the things that are important and questions you have about the different models: how long is the warranty, how long is the life span of a given model, how easy is it to maintain, how well does it allow you to hear in a given situation, what are some of the limitations of a particular model. Having questions written out will help you when you go to buy, so you don't forget to address any concerns you have prior to buying.

Also ask if they accept payments. Always make sure the audiologist doesn't force you into a pair you don't feel comfortable with. There is also the nice ability to trial aids, if possible. :)
 
Ask about trial periods and if you can 'try out' different ones that they may recommend that will best fit your hearing loss. Do not let them push you into any kind of loan/credit program- or at least be very careful with them because they tack on interest (and more if you end up late on a payment). Ask about specific features too such as telecoils, FM boots, bluetooth etc.

Some good things here for me to remember too- it's been 8 years since my last new set lol.

I'll consider myself blessed if my hearing aids last that long. They certainly cost a lot, so they should have a good life span for what they charge....
 
The Starkey hearing aids I got when I was five lasted until I was almost fifteen! I didn't know you were even supposed to get new ones every so often
 
Get a 100% risk free trial period, I wouldn't settle for "fitting fees" if you end up retuning, that can be several hundred dollars, and if you try several aids (which you may end up doing), could be much more. Research "the big 6" hearing aid companies and only buy one of their products. Lastly, you might want to read this post, How to save money on hearing aids

My first hearing aid-- Zenith- body aid- lasted me ten years from 2 to 12 lol. Then I switched to BTE. Don't recall how long my first pair lasted to be honest but most of mine have lasted between 5 to 10 years. (and I'm rough on them! lol)

There are several good brands such as Phonak, Unitron, Resound, Starkey and so on. Definitely ask your audiologist if they do hearing aids trail. Good luck! :wave:

same with my Siemens and my left Siemens hearing aid from when I was a baby still works :)

I'm sorry my post came off that way...you may want to re-read it? I am in no way selling anything. Sure I plugged my blog because it was useful, but..scamming? I don't know- the blog's not selling anything either... Check out my hearingaidforums profile, I'm pretty active on that forum and just found this one and thought I would contribute with sensible advice...

No problem with me. I just don't want to see newly deaf people taken advantage of.
 
Are you seeing an audiologist or a hearing aid specialist? You ideally should meet with an audi to get a better assessment.

Good Luck I actually have an appointment with another Audi about aids tomorrow. I can buy the ones the other Audi offered and they are okay but I am finding issues with them. My husband who has seen a marked improvement in my temperament at lack of frustration in me likes them lol I want to shop around though and see what this place has to offer me.
 
Hearing aids do more than help with hearing....they help with relationships and how we connect with others. Isn't it nice to stumble upon unexpected perks?
