brother and sister...in love

Dear topic starter- it makes me wonder if you're in love with your sister... Why bring the topic up?

Anyways, my neighbor's deaf and her parents are cousins (they're from Iraq, they believe in breeding within the family). She (my neighbor) says her deafness probably came as a result of a genetic screw up because of the incestuous breeding.

I can't imagine having such strong feelings for my brother or sister. I love them yeah, but not LOVE them enough to grope them or anything. UGH! :cold:

Dear delectable,

I never said that I am in love with my own sister or whatever :barf: but I just bought it up because I was just wondering if that situation still happens as today...of course, seems that most people marry cousins rather than their brother or sister so yeah it's disgusting and the same genes from both people would've mixed up their production of babies and stuff...but as if they don't even give a crap about it, they still love eachother no matter what...I know it's strange but do you think that's kind of "evil" or what?

One time on the Jerry Springer show, I heard that both twins (not sure if it's opposite or same gender) and they had sex because they love eachother too fuckin' much that they don't want to be apart and don't care what other ppl think and made lots of babies and they said they turn out to be fine and stuff... *ahem* BULLSHIT. *ahem*

so I'm sure in other clutures, it still happens...for a weird reason, as I've seen in most animes, one girl gets attracted to her brother and doesn't even want anyone else to love him but herself...she's pretty protective and stuff so I get the feeling that alot of japanese ppl proably do stuff like that, but proably in secret or something...lol

okay I'm getting weird again so I think that's enough

P.S. my sister is actually my half sister :o

hey hey hey.....there's a HUGE difference between cousin-cousin incest and immediate familial incest! Actually cousin-cousin incest was very very common in the old days, and that's actually where a lot of redneck stereotypes about incest come from. I do know that each state defines incest differently. Steel....I think you must be mixed up. There's never been a regular tradition of incest in any Western culture. (except for royalty in the old days) Maybe you're thinking of the man-boy relationships that were seen in Greece and Italy in the old days.
There are some incestual relationships seen in Eastern cultures, but most of them are cousin-cousin or simlair set-ups. (I remember reading in Train Go Sorry that the parents of one of the deaf students were an uncle and a niece who'd gotten married back in Middle-eastern Russia) Virtually NO culture has approved of immediate familial incest!

Okay I just hear that from a bible that the blood related marriage has been put to an end when Jesus was around and telling us that true love can be found when you find a person from a different family or something like that...I dunno maybe Jesus was digusted by blood related marriage, as well? lol

I've heard something like this happen. A man and woman met, fell in love, and decided to get married (or already got married?). Later, they found out that they were actually brother and sister by blood. Even when they found that out, they still decided to stay together for the same reason as before.

Vampy, you're right. I was reading a book about incest and it opened with that story. However I think that would be a one in a billion happening, and would also fall under the catagory of "accidental incest" (they didn't get together purposely...they didn't even know til later that they were related)
Most immediate familial incest has to do with an older (more powerful) family member sexually abusing a younger less powerful member against their will.

This is absolutely true, and it's the reason that incest is considered improper in the western world. I know that it is done in other cultures, but IMO, that doesn't make it right or proper! And, it sickens me that people actually condone such behavior.

but as if they don't even give a crap about it, they still love eachother no matter what...I know it's strange but do you think that's kind of "evil" or what?
Well 1) most of Jerry Springer's "guests" are paid actors....Seriously...who would go on national TV to announce that they were in love with their sibling/offspring/parent? You'd never be able to get a job, or a house or make any friends it would be the kiss of death for your life. Second of all, do you honestly think that someone who was psycologically healthy would want to have sex with someone who was closely related to them? You have to ask yourself why they can't develop a serious relationship with someone who wasn't related to them.

Is this an anime thing? My friend who's into incest is also a huge anime fan.
I think this whole immediate familial incest thing is just a parody on the cousin-cousin incest.

Hawai'ian Tradition

I have read that the tradition with the native Hawai'ian royal people was to marry brother to sister always. This was of course stopped by the white people who took over the islands.

Genetically, there will only be problems with the children if the parents have a problem, or if both parents are recessive carriers for a problem. Since they are from the same parents, their probability of both being carriers of the same recessive trait (if it is in their heritage) would be higher.

Seems to me I read that the main reason that incest was quashed had to do with inheritance rights and etc.

To produce hybrids, like, hybrid corn, hybrid chickens, cows, horses, dogs, etc. the mating process is kept as CLOSELY related as possible. The offspring who show bad traits are destroyed, and the next generation of the "fittest survivors" are mated, etc. etc. to produce the best and strongest bloodlines.

Not good idea for humans, we tend to not want to kill the "defectives".

:dizzy:

I thought it is against the law to marry your own brother/sister/cousin etc. and yes it is called incest...geez! thats totally sick to me! Yeah, i have heard that if they marry and have children, then the children would be retarded or something..im sorry to say this but it is a disgusting topic to discuss in my opinion!

I thought the same, but I have a so-called friend who married her own cousin and has 3 kids with him. My 'friend' has another cousin who I went to school with -- that's how I met her, through my friend from school. (the family's deaf)

Hmm... this brings me to wonder if deafness is partially a cause of incest? :dunno:

Linden, that happened with white royals too.(and many other royals too)....You know one of my friends claimed that the Blackfoot tribes approved of incest. However I wonder if maybe those claims might have been made by racist whites bent on "proving" that aboringinal culture was primative and evil. I'm very openminded...but seriously why would a person who was psycologically healthy choose to have sex with a close relative? We're not talking about tradition or preserving blueblood(where they didn't have a choice) or a one in a zillion happening where two strangers find out they are siblings. Most immediate familial incest is RAPE, which means an older member decides that they are entitled to sexually take advantage of another family member without their consent. There has NEVER been a "healthy" incestual relationship where both people consented. Incest is sex abuse and rape. It has nothing to do with healthy relationships!
Waterrats and Defee, there are a couple of states where cousin-cousin marriage is legal.
Vampy, maybe in some cases deafness is due to genetic messups from incest, but in many cases deafness is just a random mutation.

I thought about that too. :dunno:

HUH????
You mean as a a "result" of it?

Let's not imply that all deafies are jumping into sibling beds with happy cries.
Jeez.

There seems to be a somewhat inordinate amount of interest in this subject and I am just DYING to see a poll...

Heey- that does remind me of this girl from Wisconsin who has a kid or so with her 2nd cousin. They have a big deaf family, she lived with that 2nd cousin for most of her life because of family problems and ended up falling in love with him. Eh.. :)
