Breastfeeding at 8 years old ???

i read that the longer you breastfeed your child, the smarter they will be, in a clinical study, not just some random site. but i read that breastfeeding until they are about 2 years old is long enough.
 
2% milk cost about $3.15 in stores, breastfeeding is priceless.
 
I can understand the cultural differences. There are cultures where women still breastfeed up to the age of 5/6 years old. In America, wee babies are encouraged to be independent at infancy. The LLLI, La Leche League International, encourages breastfeeding.
Independence is highly valued in mainstream American society. Mothers commonly believe that children must be taught from early infancy to be independent.

I had a bad experience with the LLLI when I had my first daughter. I was struggling to breastfeed her and they told me that I was trying hard enough so I ended all contact with them after that.

Did you not have a lactation specialist/consultant assist you at first before you contacted the LLLI?

Yes I did but they said they couldnt help me because I was deaf and didnt feel comfortable communicating with me. At that time I didnt know ASL so I couldnt get a terp to help me. It was a bad experience. I had better luck with my son and I did it on my own without any help from any specialists/consultants.

So terribly sorry you had to have such a bad experience at the expense of someone else's ignorance. I'm very glad you had a better positive experience with your son.

You're welcome, smile! Oh gosh, no! Can you imagine the reactions from their friends? Hubby and I debated about this, I told him the social implications just have to be horrible. The mother should have considered weaning them before they go to school.

I have a dirty mind but...
wouldn't it be funny if one of the girls ends up being a lesbian and she tells her gf "I am pretty good at sucking boobs, been doing it for 8 years!"
