Hello all this seems to be an active group. I go by "Angelus" and have 70% loss in both ears. I have been looking for a social group of some kind related to my hearing loss; to help me get my bearrings. I have some frusterations about the process of losing my hearing; it has had a profound effect on my outgoing personality and social skills.

Over Christmas break, heard nothing but the loud and high pitched "crickett" noises in my left ear; but have grown used to the process. It usually means I am losing yet more hearing.

Wondering how much longer I will have what hearing I still possess.

I also exited the marketplace/work wise and started my own business this year; due to communication problems in the work place.

Am glad to be here and just be able to talk to people if I need to.

Blessings,

Kate

Hello there, Angelus and welcome to this sometimes moronic paradise! :lol:Just kidding; hope you enjoy your stay here.

 Chips Ahoy and :welcome: aboard All Deaf Ms Kate!

What kind of business did you open? Enquiring minds wanna know. :laugh2:

Hi Kate
Welcome in board

Have you found a good ENT doctor ? Do you have hearing aids ? Do you consider CI ?

Welcome again

Thanks so much for the WARM welcome! It helps me not to feel so isolated in my loss. Hey DreamsfloatJoe had asked what kind of business I started. I am a Montessori Pre K teacher and have been for the last 8 years. I got married in 08 and started an in home Montessori preschool. I am finding it helps make the bills and it's what I love to do. I was stressed at work with communication problems as my hearing got worse. I am still on the lookout and curious. What do deaf and hard of hearing people do for a living that works for them? I'm still keeping my eyes open on the horizon. I was QUITE fortunate to have met and married my husband. He is a hearing GEM...he has great difficulty with his sight sometimes (reading wise) so we help one another out. Again thanks for the warm welcome!

ps what is an ENT doctor...and "CI"? TY!

thanks~!

Ok got it; no actually I have not found an ENT doctor. I did go to an audiologist several times before getting my hearing aid. I have one in my right ear; none in my left yet due to cost.

Not sure if I qualify for CI. I looked into it years ago and at the time, there was a reason I didn't qualify for it, and I never further pursued it.

Audiologist explained to me hearing loss is due to an auto immune disorder. I have mid tone loss....which is all human speech. Other pitches are fine. High pitched noises drive me insane at times. I barked at my husband in the car yesterday about a screechy song he had on....*shrugs* it isn't like me to do so but sometimes it just really gets to me.

Audiologist said with hearing aids i should be able to understand human speech into my later years....but it seems to be going alot faster than he originally thought.

I am getting ready to change from an inner ear aid (just one)
to two aids purchased at Costco. My mom wears two and got them both for $600.00. Beats my $1000.00 one aid all to bits!

Ok babbled enough. :) Thanks for the clairification!

I am also a pre school teacher. In a private center setting.

I have heard of Montessori Pre K centers before. Could you explain more of what that is? Is it more of a one on one setting?

Hello Kate
I thought you needed a prescription from an ENT doctor to have hearing aid. In France it works like that.
That's why I asked you if you have an ENT doctor. And if you suspect an otitis, you have to see a specialist. ;)

Hi: Here is some info taken form Wikipedia that explains it. The short version is Montessori is a teaching method that is child lead and chidl directed with the teacher serving as a guide rather than the source of everything. It can be large (Montessori taught 60 children at one time) or small depending on the school. In my case I am small and set out in the Country. We enjoy cooking projects and botany studies in the spring. The kids are very independant.

Here is some info.

Enjoy!

Nope Giulia not here.. I saw an audiologist first and they actually sent a referral to the ENT for me to be seen there. I had both of my aids the same day I went to my first appointment to the Audiologist. It was amazing what I could hear, I cried twice that day, once because of how much hearing i had lost and another time when he put "my ears" on me.

KATE- 600?? Amazing. I have 2 open ear BTE(behind the ear) aids. Cost 5k for the 2 of them but these are crazy amazing!
I hope you find comfort in knowing there are people here who know exactly what you are going through. As for my job. I was in Marketing but I was no longer able to work there anymore because of my hearing loss. Now I am doing what I love, I write full time for a few website and I will be finishing up my first book hopefully in early February. Again, welcome smile

Welcome to AllDeaf!!

I have gotten used to the "ringing" in the ears, screeching and all. Now that I lost all of it, and since my life revolved around music, it's amazing, but I hear melodies or whole songs being played with just different instruments. What is really annoying is when I get the same song over and over and over....

It's takes a little getting used to, but a support system of any sort will help and everyone here has been fantastic!!

And just WHO are you calling a moron, Tousi? :P Just kidding, guy!

Hey Kate, thanks for the message on my page (around here)! Feel free to add me to friends.

By the way, you may want to reconsider using Wikipedia, as it's not accurate and, in any educational setting, professors will not accept research done on it. No, this is not a research center, but thought you'd like to know this before the rest of us educated people start in on it. Have a great day!

Oh, by the way, :welcome:

I just wanted to :welcome: you to AD and I hope that you enjoy yourself as much as I have. There are some really great people here and the numbers keep rising.

 Take care.
