Brag about your car's miles!

hit 90k mile and i went trip for 300 miles on day and i notice it start overheat a while when end of trip could be cooler fluid need replace??

How fast you been drive when overheat? 80 mph 90 mph?

You use AC?

it maybe need flush coolant in radiator you get to Ford Dealer they will fix.

if engine starting to overheat... there are things to check:

water pump
thermostat (a stuck-closed thermostat can cause overheating)
radiator can get plugged
coolant, if the color is brown, need to be flushed and put fresh one in.

There may be other cause of overheating, so above is just basic check if any of these is the culprit.

My car runs fine without overheat when it was a bit over 100 degrees with A/C running. The coolant guage is still at 1/4 (nearest to the C). The radiator must be really good.

By the way, my car has 92,700 miles on it. I need to have the oil changed soon this month....over 6,500 miles on same oil, lol.

Possible inoperative cooling fan motor(s)
weak fan clutch if equip
check debris on the front of the condenser or radiator

Yeah those are also other causes too but I think F-150's use fan clutch unless he replace to use electric fan to save a few mpg. :dunno:

I can brag about my car miles BUT I am definitely not bragging about all the recent problems I am starting to have with it. I am at the mechanic now for the 5th time since summer for another new problem. I have already spent nearly $1,500 on different repairs and now, the AC is broken. UGH!!!

Mine is a 2000 subaru legacy.

It has 155,239 miles. And still running strong!!

Boy, that sure sucks. :(

That's great it's running strong. :)

Bought it at an auction with high mileage for a cheap price. The car is still clean and free of rust. Well maintained with oil changes and normal care. I had to replace the battery, tune up and oil change when I first got it.

Been a good car so far!! Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have over 128 K miles on my trike and it is still humming along without any problems whatsoever cuz I baby it, lol.

Ohhhh, that's cool. Hope it serves you well for long term. :)

That's a lot of miles for a trike...I know most motorcycles don't last that long....doesn't your trike use a regular 4 cylinder car engine?

some trucks/SUVs use electric cooling fan motor for condesner and fan clutch behind the radiator like MBZ and Beemer. I cant remmby abt F150 that have electric fan motor. I saw my tech who replaced an electric fan clutch assy on a Chevy Trailblazer, asked him why. Overheated. He flushed cooling system and replaced T-stat, remain same problem, he contacted the tech hotline, said bad electric fan clutch assy. New assy fixed overheat problem. New to me.

Oh, no, it is a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle converted to a trike. Since it is a 1991, this is their 1500cc engine and well known for their longevity IF you take care of it....it is pretty common for them to go 3-400K miles.

P.S. Actually, it was a regular 2 wheeler for 123K miles and I bought it and converted it.

Too bad, dang happen. I spend $ 207 dollars on a reman A/C compressor, accummulator and orifice tube in my old Astro van. I pay nothing on 3lbs freon
:cool2:

No A/C? I just simply open a window or two to let fresh air in my cars. Even though both my Ford and Isuzu have AC, I hardly ever use them in the summer as I always drive with my windows open. But come winter, I use HEAT and defoggers often than I do AC..weird aint it eh.

Its just been an old habit of mine for 23 years I been driving. If anything is that broken and minor like no AC or busted headlight switch, I just adapt and live with it unless the car just blows its motor up right in the middle of I40/I75. One extreme was my 1985 Dodge Daytona (150k on it) when its starter failed, I had to roll and push start it for 3 months until I could get a new starter on it. Fun Fun Fun it was :P and that was back in 1996...

Anyways, update on the cars...The ZX2 Escort is still hibernating at my daddy's barnyard and the Isuzu now has 119k on her. I gotta have a mech look at the Isuzu for a leaking rear main seal plus leaky coolant overflow bottle. Its driving me batty as I hate having my cars leak oil or coolant on the pavement.

oh poor man, I remmby on the hot day, I was struck in heavy traffic on the freeway, noticed a water temp gauge on the dash of my old Chevy pickup, went rose to the red mark. I decided to turn a full speed blower and defrost on to cool the coolant (has inoperative A/C be4) then the needle in gauge began dropping to half mark but too hot inside same as outside. Blamed on restricted radiator. Dont try my tip on ur vehicle if ur A/C is working with heater on.
Leaking rear main seal can be mistake for leaking V/C gaskets, make sure ur mechanic to take a look at the V/C(s) before he or she condemn the rear main seal. That was happen to my tech who recommanded rear main seal replacement on a GM 5.3L V8 then he found nothing wrong with rear main seal, he traced oil leaks, found bad oil pan gasket ( made of molded rubber and bimetal) cuz the oil filter spin on the pan not on the block where the pressurized oil flow thru gallery in the aluminum pan and block and seeping out of the detoriated O-seal, leaking to the rear of the engine. That was how he mistake for rear main seal.

Did you know that car with AC enable on the highway is better MPG than car without AC and open window?
