tell me your favorite book and why?

i have too many but most recent one is the dragonriders of pern. its very good book.. has 3 books into one (dragonflight, dragonquest, and the white dragon)

the reason why i like that book is because it is fantasy and is very interesting (i like anything that is about fantasy (unicorns, fairies, dragons), and romance books)

whats yours?

The Testament by John Grisham

Reason: Very smooth story with characters
about Troy one of the richest men in the United States
trying to prepare his Will and hire a jaded lawyer
to fly down in Brazil looking for Rachel who chose
to give her life to God and she went to live and
work with a primitive tribe of Indians in Brazil....

I could ever hardly put that book down !

Right now my fave book that I've been reading for the last 2 days is " The Power Of Forgiveness "...by Joyce Meyer

Roadrunner's cousin gave me this book as a gift, and I couldn't stop reading it LOL...

It's a very intersting book and it about keeping your heart free and why we must forgive...really amazing book I've ever read!!!

Yes, Angel I've heard so much about Joyce Meyer and

that kind of Christmas gift of forgiveness !

 ...You girls are very welcome..;)

It is time to confess that I am a book addict. I got over 2,500 books in my collection so I have too many to have just one favorite.

Right now, I am reading this amazing book "A Bookseller in Kabul", a memoir of a true life Kabul bookstore owner who struggled through 1970s to now with various reigmes such as Communists, Taliban, etc. Taliban was the worst - burning everything except Islamic readings. He had to smuggle other books into other parts of Kabul to avoid getting in trouble.

This book reminds me of " Reading Lolita in Tehran ", another powerful book.

I got a new book last night and it is about a family in Paraguay so I can t wait to read it. I am fascinated with social issues in other countries.

i don't read books but i read is maz hehe i know it's not count!

I have few people who wanna me start reading to improve my english.. oh well!

Oh hells bells. I can't narrow it down to just one, so I'm gonna give you a list of the books that I thought were really good.

The Testament :)werd: to whoever concurred.)

Di Vinci Code ( :werd: Totally cool book, but I didn't care for Angels and Demons as much.)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (my favorite out of the series)

I haven't read a book for ages!

My favourite one is...as you all probably know is called The Raging Quiet (its about deaf boy)

Last book I read was called Deafening, about deaf girl in war

Im trying to read my favourite Harry Potter book at the moment, which is the fourth one, but havent started on that.

I also have to read a book on BSL Linguistics for my course soon

ive always loved the works of Stephen King along with other authors, Dean Koontz, John Saul, Jonathan Kellerman, Robin Cook

ive read books by other authors over the years some were VERY good some were unbelievably BORING!

some classic novelists like Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, Edgar Allen Poe and others' works were very good as well! :thumb:

gotta get myself back to reading books at some point :-/

You and I am in same boat... I am a book addict. But 2,500 books? Jeez... *looks at my book shelves and back to your numbers*

I tend to read many medical or health-related books included weightlifting and its philosophy. Anyway I do read the novels, I recently bought Robert Ludlum's Bourne series and The book of Enoch edited by R.H. Charles (Reason I bought that book of Enoch because I heard many christian groups banned it so it got me curious).

Meg, I definitely am going to check these books out that you mentioned in your post. Also have you ever read 'The years of Rice and Salt' by Kim Stanley Robinson? If not, I strongly recommend you to pick it up.. it is about alternative world where Arab, African, and Asian nations step up and begin to colonize/take over the world when the black death has killed 99% of Europeans. Very frightening but interesting to read.

Guys & gals, books are the wonderful 'invention' ever man created... Don't take it for granted... Knowledge is power. Not power is knowledge. Go out and buy some books (not magazines or newspapers) to read.

Always reading - peeps will tell you that they always see a book in my hand, a book in my purse, a book in my briefcase and a couple books in my car...and probably a few books here and there...I go to libraries all over St. Louis at least weekly...

My favs...dont laugh...
The Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter series
A Series of Unfortunate Events

... right now Im reading DARKNESS PEERING by Alice Blanchard...fairly good book!

Well said!!!!!

Ive always wanted to set up a book club here but very few of my deaf friends like to read. If they do like to read, it is usually the genre that includes Danielle Steel, etc....

Im the type who goes for classics (am an admirer of Russian/French/British literature), world history, biographies, social issues and international novels depicting lives in other countries. So my friends doesnt want to join the book club with me :(

Yeah... That does represent a problem... I tried to find local deafies who have the same interests as I do (speaking of books) but seem that many deafies really don't like to read the books beside required by college or school. That is really sad...

Meg, I am an admire of Germany/French/British/Japanese literature as well... actually mostly Germany (example: Hans Henny Jahnn's works). I am a passionately fan of Ernest Hemingway's works (fav: The Old Man and The Sea & Farewell To Arms). Classic books are unfortunately underestimated and undervalued by both deafies and hearies.

Curious what kind of classic books do you recommend? I'd like to know about yours and would like to pick these up for myself to read. Cheers.

I could NEVER stand romance... It's always the same...

Girl meets boy, boy fooks girl, boy leaves girl, girl cries for boy, girl looks for boy, girl finds boy, girl marries boy, lives happily ever after.

C'mon...the formula is getting old.
