can a blackberry use AIM messenger? just wanted to know before i buy
 
There are some older blackberries such as the 6800 series that cannot use AIM. If you order a 7000 or greater blackberry, like the 7250 or 7100, you can use AIM. Do not get any older blackberries if you're looking for AIM. If you're still not sure, find out what the model number of the blackberry you're looking for and post here, I can definitely help you out on that.

I use GoogleTalk for Blackberry. Google Talk is a Jabber IM Client and works with many different transports to allow AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Y! buddy lists to work on my Blackberry (7290). http://www.blackberry.com/GoogleTalk/

I use Ramble and it works great..

Im still looking for that all in one where I can use Yahoo, MSN, and AIM.

Steve, I've not seen anything that allows GoogleTalk to act as a multi-IM client. The 7290 uses SMS to communicate with those four IM clients you stated, while GoogleTalk uses your data plan.
 
I also used ramble IM also works very well I just got sick of my blackberry and went and bought a sidekick2 again as I didnt see the MDA being worth it imo. Id rather have unlimited txt and all that stuff
 
I use Ramble too, but it has problems. It doesn't vibrate when receiving first IM. There are others such as yak-on, or verichat.
Those use data not text messenging.

I'm sorry, I should have renamed my above links better. Since I can't edit them, here's the first one again:

I know it's not straight-forward that GoogleTalk itself is a Jabber Client. However, in the above link, you will find information how to set up Transports to add other IM screenname/buddy lists to a Jabber Client, such as PSI and Miranda. I tried both and prefer PSI (Here's Google's info on setting up PSI: GoogleTalk Support (PSI)). Because of this, I have not installed the GoogleTalk Client onto my PC as it's not required for any of this to work. GoogleTalk is accessable on gmail.com anyway, if I want to log in from another computer - I usually don't because it's all on my BB!

I do not use any SMS-based IM application(s) on my Cingular (ATTW) 7290. I only use "Blackberry Messenger" and "GoogleTalk for Blackberry Devices" on my unlimited data plan.

Let me ask you guys on this one. Can you hear the phone if you are hard of hearing? Is it loud and clear?? Right now I am using nextel i710 and it is loud and clear but wondering about the blackberry. Thank for your help. :D

I have a reverse-slope hearing loss. It's loud enough for me. Actually, I can hear my Blackberry better without my CIC hearing aid. I found my new digital hearing aid compresses the volume so much, it lets less in. It's my primary phone and of course, your mileage may vary.
