Ok, first off, this is my first BlackBerry so I don't know if this is normal behaviour. Everytime I put my 8700g in the plastic holster, the thing always randomly selects a menu depending what program is running.

For example, if I'm on the main screen and put my BB inside the plastic holster, I get a pop up that asks me if I want to "assign a speed dial to the A key"? This is annoying as hell and I can't use the plastic holster because it keeps doing that. Normal for the 8700g?

In addition, out of all the keys on the 8700g, the "M" seems to be a little problematic, too, because I have to press hard enough for it to work. Many times I miss the "M" when I'm typing because I didn't press hard enough. :ugh3:

So, BlackBerry users, what do you think???????

I wonder why they call "BlackBerry" hehe. (just joking).. Most my friends have blackberry.. they said they have same problems but they got used to it..
I will be like you that it preeves me.. if it keep going.. I couldnt image that they got used to it..

well Good luck.. (i am still on sk2) :/

One day, I will get Blackberry 8700r Yours 8700g due different code..

I'll find it out with this.. ok

2 answers pop in to my mind.

1. It sounds like you're putting it into the holster backwards. The display side should not be visible when in the holster. Don't feel bad. Many others have done the same thing. When in the holster the side with the batter is the side you should see, while the display is covered by the plastic.

2. You can set the keyboard to lock when in the holster by going to options > security and setting the keyboard lock.

you has phone call screen display a number is highlight and key is pressed then you assign speed dial to that letter.

exit to main screen and place in holster carefully no problem

Wow I hate those little technological quirks. Since you find this issue particularly annoying, may I also suggest considering a different holster if you are unable to fix it through the BlackBerry itself? Personally, I didn't want a plastic holster anyway because I didn't see it providing much protection against wind, rain, stratching, dropping, and so on. So I ordered this one instead:

BlackBerry 8703e 8700g 8700c Monaco Cowhide Pouch - Sleeper Function

They were out of stock so I had to get that one through Deafpagers.com. There are many other holsters as well so look at them first (if you're interested).

I navigated through 10 different major reviews before deciding to get the BlackBerry 8700g. The best major review I ran across was at RIM Blackberry 8700g review . It compares the BlackBerry 8700g with the Palm Treo 650. Also offers statistics and tips/tricks and useful websites with stuff related to BlackBerry 8700g, such as forums, books, free downloads, software/tool downloads. I had it instantly bookmarked it because this site seemed very useful. Maybe you'll find some ideas there.

i dont own a blackberry but i own ppc 6700 and I would have simlar issue like you so i start to lock the device so no button will work until i tap on my screen to unlock it first.

I would think blackberry have a device or button lock feature too so you might want to check that out and see if you can lokc/unlock the blackberry.

You can. See #2 in my post above.

I still thnk he's putting it in the holster backwards.

A section from OS 4.1 for BlackBerries:

Option to disable alerts while in a call

If you find it annoying to hear the alert tone while you are in a call, now you have the option to disable this disturbance. This is available through the Profiles screen for applications that triggers a reminder, namedly Tasks, Calendar and SMS. The below screens are on a Normal profile and for Calendar and Tasks respectively.

There might be something similar to this window where you can disable the annoying popups by disabling "In Holster" for assigning speed dial to a key.

Yup, I had the same problem too. When I put my 8700g into the holster - take it out a few minutes later, I see it is in the Call or Dial screen. What I did was go to the Phone menu, selected Options, General Options and changed "Dial From Home Screen" from Yes to No. Now, it never tries to dial or assign a speed dial to arbitray key presses. That option forces you to only dial from the Call Log even if you have pressed other keys by mistake, like putting it in your holster.

As for the "M" key - guess you have dirt in your keyboard - I have an 8700g and 8700c, both 'M's work fine. Sorry, no help here.

Thanks for the tip! One time, my BB 8700g decided to make a call on its own! :( Now, I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Yea I know what you mean Alex. I hate it and I threw it in the trash. So I got another one from ebay. :D I would rather use something to protect my bb from damage.

Alex, Yeah I had similar issues like that, 1) its normal behavior, Because somehow bb's button keyboard hit on plastic holster's corners when pull it out, sometime come in. just be careful when you pull it out of holster.. I now get used with it. because I practiced it till get used to it without hit on plastic holster's corner problems.

2) if you had problem keyboard button. you need to buy Torx #6 Screwdriver from any store like sears. you can fix it and clean it out by yourself after open BB device, its easy. it save your times and headache less.. :) I curious where your BBG is now?
