I am thinking about getting a pet bird but I can't decide what kind of bird I should get. I like parakeets and lovebirds but I would like to know if there are other kinds that are good as well. Anyone here know all about birds?

Why you want them? Sometimes these birds can outlive the owners life! Im not sure about small birds, but these colorful birds do live very long. Problem is, they are too easily attached to the master. Can you live and put up with their BS from time to time? Better ask around for more info before you get in wrong spot.

Thank you for your feedback :) That is why I am asking around about birds before I decide to buy one because I want to see what others would say about having birds as pets.
 
When I was live with my mom when I was young and my mom love parakeets green and blue. When I was in school for monday to friday cause I was in jr.residence (Junior Residence like a Dorm) then back home on weekend. I was walked into the livingroom and saw there is no birds so I asked my mom where is the birs .. she said one of green died so she put green died into farm's ground to grave (sp) and she give away of blue bird not want buy again till abut i was 11 or 12 my mom bought same kind of colour birds and I was at school came home on weekend about on Saturday I was get up from the couch walk gonna go to washroom or kitchen but I saw blue bird was fell off the stick and shaking whole bird's body then I yelled at my mom " MOM! MOM! MOM! COME HERE AND LOOK AT THE BIRD!!!" then she came and saw the bird was stop moving . It was heart attacked that I was saw everything that bird was shaking till stop then my mom came and my mom got cried how she miss the bird then she put blue bird somewhere I cant remember then she give away green bird to my grandmother till my grandmother give away to someone .. now my mom wont buy same kind of birds AGAIN!.. till she got new different bird call cocoktail it was soooooo cute but she give away one of her friend till the cocoktail got new baby then her friend gave to my mom cause she want to thank to my mom for give away to her friend of cocoktail.. till few years later her bird cocktail died cause of caught by the tangle string on their wing so my mom bring her bird to vet right away!!!!! but died at the vet cause the bird got lost the blood. now I know my mom wont buy a bird again. myu mom still have cat and 2 dogs :)

parakeets that I think short life but wasnt sure about it :) .. you can research before you buy the birds :)
 
your welcome bluebutterfly :) .. you can do more research or ask someone who have same as parakeets or lovebirds :)
 
I used to have a pet parakeet... but it got eaten up by my 2 kittens. :(

that´s what I thought so... :lol:

Bluebutterfly, good thread... I like to learn bit about birds... I don´t have any experience how to bring birds up... I know some of friends who own birds... they are cute...

Yes I like birds but I bet my 2 cats would grab birds for their dinner straight way after I bring birds to new home... :Ohno:

yeah my mom love parakeets. But she wont buy again and also cocktail too so she wont buy a birds anymore same with fishes too. She is fine with cat and 2 dogs.. Right now her cat is very old now her cat is 16 yrs old and still alive.

her dog "Kali" is 3 yrs old... and her boyfriend's dog Ricky 12 yrs old I think
 
I had a Quaker parrot, his name was Darlin'. He was one smark aleck. Gave to my friend after having the parrot for 10 yrs. My friend's wife always wanted a Quaker. Felt the bird needed a better home, my friend built 10' by 10' aviary for the Quaker which was way off better than my bird cage!!!

How did I acquire this Quaker parrot, one day my mom was cleaning the garage, parrot got scared and flew and landed on my mom's shoulder, mom posted flyers and looking for lost pet. No one ever responded.

He is still alive as my friend tells me. Got a new mate. Darlin' and Sweetie. Go figure.

BTW, i had parkeets, white, lite blue and green, their names were Snowy, Sunny and Green Pea.

yeah :( My mom is doing fine .. when cocktail caught by the tangle on the wing it make my mom got freak and bring it to vet very fast and Vet doctor tried to repair but didnt make it. .. I love to seeing cocktail that i tried to get her (cocktail) on my finger but wont jump and stand on my finger lol but sometime on my finger lol .. ummm I gonna look for pic of my mom's bird cocktail hope in my computer if have lol .. will post in here when I find :)

Ah Yikes! poor parakeet. :( My grandma has parakeets, She loves them with passion. If you mess with her birdies she would throw a fist. :giggle:

yeahhh i agreed with ya! hehehe

i will show what my mom have her pets .. before she got so many pets but now better less not want spend with the pet food lol
 
Long time ago, When I was young and used to have parkeet bird (green one) Lived for 4 years.. So beautiful bird and no problem so far.. but age is old and passed away. My parent were made their decision and doesn't want have another parkeet which too short live...

yeahh i agreed same with my mom that she wont buy another parkeet birds again :D
