Well, earlier today I was faced with a question that I had hoped I would never get asked by my son. I knew he would eventually ask me that question one day but gee, it got me on the spot and I was gulping, lol.

He asked me "How does Mommy have babies?"

So, I eventually told him that Birds makes these nests, Bees makes those honey. Mommy and Daddy decided to have you because we love you. I didn't go into details, of course, because at 8 years old, he does not need to know the details. All went well when he seemed to accept my answer but then, I cringed when he started to ask me more questions about how do babies come out, and he said he wanted me to have one more baby so he could have a brother to play with, lol.

Anyway, I'm sure many of you parents have went through that when your children were younger but here's the thing - How do you ever get past the awkwardness of answering the question?

In a way, I am glad that my son is asking me that question instead of asking his friends or other people in order to have an open communication line between us, but, still, it wasn't an easy thing to do at all, lol.

I think my kids learned it in school before they thought of asking. At least I don't remember that they did. :hmm:

Although I am pretty sure we had some basic books from the library for children that they read.

Better to bring out the truth in one perspective or another. Birds and bees just isn't what it used to be. You'd be surprised about the extent of such details especially such young kids are exposed to by their friends. If it's a concern, don't wait til he has a pornographic viewpoint about sex, nor hope he will find out on his own tjrough books or health curriculum, give him a foundation to start with, details need not be mentioned. LOL Another alternative is to have your doctor or health specialist give him a quick once-over of the subject, but at 8 years old, simplicity is best here.

Some kids learn it early because they get it from friends or older siblings, sometimes, kids know more than their parents!! I knew all the details by the time I was 12!

I told them the truth.

I tell them the truth about how babies are made.

Kids now a days are so exposed to so much. That is hard to sit and beat around the bush with them.

lol damn you're brave! I know I can't do it. I'll just leave it to my future wife to handle it

I taught my kids the basics in an age appropriate way around 7.

Here's the book that I used. Highly recommend it.

I gave my older child the Dr. Ruth book for kids when he was about 11. Give them the real information before they learn erroneous info from their peers is my theory.

Good luck!

yeah, I told him the truth. actually I read a book to him. But it was a christian version of it called "before I was born"

now I wished there was a christian version of birth control for teenagers who want to know what are MARRIED couple options on preventing pregnancy and diseases (even spouses can have diseases). That way they know their options are, but yet still stress the important of marriage due to our religious beliefs.

I mean, they should know before marriage anyway if they don't want to get pregnant on their honeymoon.

take'em to whorehouse like what they do in South America? :laugh2:

:laugh2:Training them to be pervs!

Most kids learn more about details from friends. I remember, my mom covering the basics with me. When I got older, my friends told me more :eek3:

yep. there you go

Yeah, that they do. I learned more details from my friends too. I've covered the basics with my son but I would not be surprised to know that he would be able to find more details from his peers. I've been honest with him, provided of the age-appropriate level and when he gets older, yeah, there will be more that kind of talks to come, lol.

If you have a son, he probably wants to ask you first. Good Luck! If you have porn magazines in your attic or in your closet, he will find them for sure. He would probably say that he loves to vacuum the house awhile he is thinking of the magazines there. :hmm:

You could get a book at a children library room for him to read about it. I hope that there is a good book with easy and basic information.

It is a good thing that he asked you about it first. Some young grandmothers talk their son/daughter's child about it without their permission. That could be a problem.
